| Dunamin04-10-07, 10:14 AM | I tried posting this on the prestige class board, but with no reply after several days, so I try my luck here. The hellbreaker prestige class from the Fiendish Codex 2 has the class feature Telepathic Static. Within a 20 ft radius of the hellbreaker, this ability blocks telepathy and forces anyone attempting a divination spell or spell-like ability to make a spellcraft check of DC 20 + hellbreaker level for the divination to succeed. What happens if the source of the divination is outside the 20 ft radius, but effects someone within (such as the hellbreaker)? For instance, let's say a scrying spell is cast outside the radius, at the hellbreaker. Does the caster need to make the Spellcraft check? If so, is he aware that something interferes with his magic, or is the check rolled in secret by the DM? |

The impression I get is that the point of the ability is to block out divinations. I'd say anyone casting/using a divination inside the area, or targeting such a divination inside the area, has to make the Spellcraft check. And don't forget that spells like true strike are divinations :D |

It does explain why hellbreakers are a bit more difficult for the baatezu to track down and eradicate, as scrying, for instance, becomes less of an option. Anybody else has an opinion on this matter? |
