In line with Wiz_O Keldar's statement (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15616471&postcount=88) this is only discussion about the game, not what any RL faiths believe or don't believe in. And really the only RL reference made is for the sake of context and the damn cool toast.

Ellis once had a group of characters at a bar in the former USSR, where one tells the story how people come here because they believe that souls are the fuel for a massive war between Heaven and Hell but they also believe the soul is an energy field and thus:

"Electromagnetic fields are terminally disrupted by nuclear explosions, so visitors will have their last drink and photo taken at the bar, then have themselves strapped to an underground nuclear test device.

(Warren Ellis, Stormwatch, La Jolla, 1997; Warren Ellis, Planetary)"

The man raises his glass and says, "A toast to those who cheated both God and the Devil."

Now this has rather striking parallels to the idea of petitioners who fuel the Alignment War by going to the Outer Planes. Would the Athar attempt to bring people to such a bar, either by choice or force? Would the Doomsguard be responsible, given that destruction of souls would be entropy triumphant? I can see all kinds of trouble for a faction if this gets discovered, though of all the gods I could see Nerull and perhaps Tharizdun making this offer...especially since Nerull just has his petitioners devoured by fiends instead of rewarding them much...

You might want to post a description of the Athar and Doomsguard; I have a vague recollection of what they are, as I found the Planescape setting interesting and wish it could be translated to 3.5, but not well enough to answer your question about those factions.

Personally, I think that such an experiment would be carried out with either willing or unwilling subjects. If it's the latter, the person who's doing it would DEFINITELY become Evil if they weren't already. If it's the former... they (both parties involved) probably have a Wisdom that can be counted on one hand.

EDIT: It'd be a good idea for a villain, though. But if a PC tries it....

Doomguards with soul destroying nukes would be the end of everything. Don't think they'd bother with testing or a bar.

i'm going to admit i didn't get that last post.

Rania - great poster.

It would be interesting to see the Doom Guard accidentally make a hole in the Multiverse and then glorifying in it.

Sorry - my bad.
Carry over from the locked thread.
The google sblock is the # of results I got for the topics listed.
A round about hint, at where a yammer thread can certainly be yammered about,
with out needing a CoC warning or lock.

To blow my own horn, I liked my idea about Nuclear Religion of sorts,
and obviously the ideas aren't mine alone ... see pretty picture above ... and this OP.
