| Taeldrin Laesrash10-13-07, 11:51 PM | Nice list. You left out quite a few gods, though, among the listed pantheons. Kali, Bast, Hathor, Ptah, Tvashtri, among others. You've also got Artemis listed twice, as Diana and Artemis. Same thing with Hades and Pluto. |

| sciborg310-14-07, 12:58 AM | Deities and Demigods gives you stats but you'd have to construct the list yourself. |
| Rogue Elendae10-14-07, 01:41 AM | Technically, Taeldrin, Diana and Artemis are two different goddesses, according to most mythologies I've read, not just because they were from different pantheons (Diana being Roman, Artemis Greek, obviously). Diana was pretty much relegated strictly to goddess of the moon status, like Apollo was god of the Sun in Roman myth. In Greek, Artemis was the Huntress, a virgin goddess of the wild and the hunt; Selene was goddess of the moon. Phoebus Apollo was god of light, music, prophecy, and a few other things that slip my mind. Helios was the god of the sun. Further, Hades and Pluto were a bit different...Pluto was also revered as god of the underground wealth, since gold, silver, gems, etc. have to be mined from beneath the earth--essentially, the underworld. Hades, to my knowledge, had no such ties. Also, various other Roman versions of Greek deities had considerably different ways of being viewed by the people who followed them. Mars was a far less violent, negative figure than Ares, for example, and I seem to recall that there was far more to Zeus as god of the sky, storms, etc. than Jupiter, who was merely king of the gods. And Saturn is actually considered a more benevolent deity than Kronos, as well as having different connotations; I don't think Saturn has the ties to time that Kronos has. I believe he was some sort of agricultural deity, but I might be confusing him with another god. It's been a while since I read the Roman takes on things...I stick to Greek most of the time. Anyway, after my little diatribe (sorry, I'm an English major and a mythology buff...I've got several of the myths of Greek, Roman, Norse, Japanese, Hindu, and Buddhist myth memorized, and have been working through Celtic myth...I'm a geek), back to the OP. If you're just looking for a list of deities, I'd suggest Encyclopedia Mythica (www.pantheon.org), as your best place to find deities from every form of myth, and various creatures, heroes, and such. However, if you're looking for stats, there's where I can't help so much. I personally don't believe in having stats for deities (can induce the players to fall into the "it has stats, it can be killed" mind-set...I've got a friend who had a campaign he played in dissolve into random god-slayage), so I've never bothered even looking into it. Deities and Demigods has some of the deities on your list statted out (I know there was Greek, Norse, and Egyptian in the book, don't recall much else), but you'd have to work on a lot of them on your own. |
| Taeldrin Laesrash10-14-07, 09:37 AM | Technically, Taeldrin, Diana and Artemis are two different... My mistake. I'll admit, it's a bit confusing, especially since in the late Greek period, the original god and their Roman counterpart resemble each other very much. Also, another source for gods would be the old 1e or 2e Deities and Demigods, which features many of the pantheons used in the cosmology. Or: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_gods |
| vorpo10-17-07, 08:18 PM | How could you ever live the Z's blank? What happened to the god of gods Zeus himself.... Oh wait, he's beaten by the Christian god and faded out of people's memories... |
| Zombie Carl10-17-07, 08:44 PM | Chemosh, Destroyer god of the Moabites. Asherah, YHWH's estranged wife. Moloch, although mlk might actually be the ritual of sacrificing your children rather than the god being sacrificed too. Hadad, part of the big mesopotamian three along with El and Dagon (i'm surprised you had Dagon without the others), the sacred bull. El, the high father-figure god. Allah, the moon god, part of a pagan pantheon. |
