I've recently begun researching The Serpent as it fits very neatly into the role of the (Really) BBEG of my campaign perfectly, (a role I had originally reserved for someone else but whatever). I've yet to find any real information on the thing so I wanted to ask if any of you people knew anything about him/her/it.

It's imaginary. Vecna is crazy.

The Serpent is a personification of Epic level magic, or magic itself as an abstract concept. Vecna was nuts and believed that 'the serpent' was a living entity whispering and speaking to him, as opposed to being a delusion wrought of a mixture of his own profound skill with magic and prosaic madness.

The name may be used by other people to describe the same, but there's no evidence really in-game outside of Vecna's mad claims to truly back it up, and a brief reference in the ELH (same author for the ELH as for 'Die Vecna Die' which confused the original concept of The Serpent and tried to present it as some BBEG using Vecna).

Out of curiousity and because I also heard about this Serpant thing which page was it mentioned on. I don't need a quote just the page number.

I don't know if it's canon (I think it's not) but there's a Living Greyhawk adventure path dealing with the Serpent (I don't think it's a good one)

I played one adventure of this series last year at a Con and when the Serpent talked to us at the end of the adventure I was close to start banging my head on the table.

According to this the serpent is a primordial entity that was overthrown by the deities and cut into countless pieces. Vecna was supposed to put her back together but he betrayed her and used the secrets the Serpent told him for his own ascension to divinity. IMO a terrible plot and completly offside everything that was written about the Serpent in canon D&D

In the Vecna: Hand of the Revenant comic, the Serpent is a gestalt being composed of all of Vecna's ancestors. Their spirits become one with the Serpent upon their death. Its purpose was to advise the ancient Ur-Flannae kings, but Vecna was the last of his bloodline, so now it advises only Vecna.
