The Spirit World is an variant transitive plane that replaces the Astral Plane of the D&D cosmology. This plane appears in Manual of The Planes, and is talked about in a lesser extent in Oriental Adventures. I'm trying to create a campaign where The Spirit World is prominent. Can anyone recommend any additional resources (3rd party published books, websites, wizboard creations; i.e: monsters, classes, races; etc.) to assist me in help rounding out my campaign a little better? I plan on using Magic of Incarnum, Expanded Psionics Handbook, & Oriental Adventures.

Thanks for you help in advance! :ghosted:

Spirit Shaman is a good 'core' class (Complete Divine).

You may also want to think about using Fey as physical manifestations of spirits. . .it may sound dumb but having 'spirits' your players can see and interact with before they go into the spirit realm may be good.

But really, look into the Spirit Shaman, it is MADE for your world.

I was planning on the Spirit Shaman being a major factor in my campaign. My thoughts were that shamans were native to the continent I was centering my campaign on, and if someone wanted to be a cleric, they could..but not a native. Also, the psionic classes would be more visible, with arcane magic as "exotic", with sorcerer being the exception.

I'm not sure if I want to add Shedeo's Draenei race from W.O.W., having never played the game, but they look really cool and they are a spiritually-minded people.

W.O.W. isn't my thing either...

As far as races go, I'd say if you're using psionics make sure to take advantage of the Unbodied, they are very cool.

Have you decided how outsiders are going to work exactly? You could rule that all the other planes are only extentions of the Spirit realm and that ther creatures from ther are the embodiments of the corresponding ideal. (Fire Elementals are Fire Spirits...)

Using some of the stuff from Ghostwalk could be cool. Ghosts without actually being crazy undead, just call 'em spirits and you're set to go.

The party has camped by the roadside for the night, a warm little fire crackling, keeping the darkness at bay. Further down the road, from out of the shadows, a phantom procession materializes. You are filled with a sence of awe at their magnificence. Made up of hundreds of pale, non-corporeal beings, the entire company gives off a faint luminescence. They march on with heads bowed by grief. In the middle of the column a powerfully built ghost carries the shrouded body of a dead king on his final journey. They walk down the road chanting a solemn funeral dirge. The song lingers in your soul long after they have passed, until the light of dawn washes over you. Suddenly it seems but a memory, a dream. A new day lies ahead, and you are determined to make the most of it.

Heroes of Horror could also work, depending on the spin you're trying to put on the Spirit. The dream-related content in HoH could be adapted quite easily to fit the feel of the Spirit.

Legends of the Five Rings has a really great book called Fortunes & Winds (http://www.d20zines.com/v7/node/327) that details their cosmology. This book would work perfectly with the Spirit World, and with any asian themed fantasy campaign.

The book includes 10 planes, or spirit worlds, it has lots of monsters and inhabitants of those planes, and I believe it has dual stats for d20 and L5R, so you can plug it straight into your D&D or d20 campaign without adapting.

Even if you don't use the material as-is, there are gazillions of ideas to mine from this book and it would be helpful for any DM running a campaign that uses the Spirit World. Check it out at your local gaming store, or if your gaming store doesn't have it, you can purchase a legal, downloadable pdf for a very inexpensive price at RPGnow.com (http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_260_279&products_id=15025&) or here is a link to a review on-line if you want to know more: http://www.d20zines.com/v7/node/327

I figured I would use the suggestion from Manual of The Planes and say that The Spirit World would lead to other realms, like portals to The Kingdom of Fire Spirits (Elemental Plane of Fire) occupying the same general location as a semi-active volcano.

I was thinking about using the eidolon and eidoloncer classes for players who "died" but wanted to continue their characters as spirits. Good Idea!

I haven't cracked my Heroes Of Horror in awhile. I have to take another look at it.:detect:

Thanks, Gray, I'll look into it! Keep those great ideas coming!

Is there anything in particular you really wanted feedback or ideas on?

I just wanted to know if anyone could recommend some interesting books, races, classes, etc. that would go well in a Spirit World campaign. I just got Magic of Incarnum & Oriental Adventures - Fortunes & Winds and I hope to incorporate those into my upcoming campaign. Thanks for keeping tabs on me, Mai_ariti!

Magic of Incarnum. . .nice.

Actually, you might like the Weapons of Legacy book for ideas on how spirits can help heros by merging with their items, that would be a only minor over-haul of the system.

Other than that, I'm out of Ideas, sorry. . .
