| _Maximus_12-31-07, 07:40 PM | I dont mean this in a whole battle way, but i was wondering what was up with Thor having a strength of 92 and Moradin having, i think, 46. Nobody in Deities and Demigods comes close to Thor. Not that they would battle or anything, but ive always imagined Moradin as the huge tough guy, similar to Thor, but the powers of the Nordic, and D & D pantheons are pretty much equal, so I would expect Thor's strength would be around 50 at most. He is after all still quite robust. Im eager to see any responses regarding this ridiculous strength score. |
| Ikyotojin12-31-07, 08:07 PM | It's the belt. I think it acts like a uber powerful belt of "kick the cr@p out of anything and buff up to levels beyond those of other imaginary figures". ;) Thor is a mythical figure from an ancient religion and the other guy was made up for a game. That makes Thor tougher cause his name is carved on stones all over Europe and there are some people in the real world who still think of him as a viable religious icon and god to pray to. Of course this could all be explained with "My imaginary friend is more powerful than your imaginary friend". |
| Kain_Darkwind12-31-07, 08:09 PM | Thor's belt specifically doubles his strength score. He has a 46 base Str. |
| BigGus01-02-08, 08:27 PM | Yeah, that one always puzzled me too. AFAIK, Thor's belt Megingjord was supposed to double his strength, which according to the carrying capacity table on p.192 of the PHB should increase it by 5. Doubling his strength score actually increases his strength by a factor of 588. On the other hand, if his belt is tightened, his strength increases still further. But I'm not convinced even Thor could tighten it enough to get from 2x to 588x without cutting himself in half. |

Yes, well unfortunately the ancient Vikings weren't around to mention that fact to the designers. ;) |

| BigGus01-02-08, 09:16 PM | It also wouldn't have the cool factor man. I mean, Megingjörð being a Belt of Giant Strength +5 kinda sucks... This is true...the way I'd have done it would be something like (off the top of my head) make it a +6 Belt of Giant Strength which when tightened one notch increases the strength bonus by a further +2, but does 2d6 damage per round (which can't be resisted or reduced in any way) for each notch it's tightened also. BTW, how do you do that cool nordic "d"? |
| Einvaldurinn_mikli01-02-08, 09:38 PM | BTW, how do you do that cool nordic "d"? It just comes with my Icelandic keyboard. But, pulling from Wiki here:In the Unicode universal character encoding standard, upper and lower case eth are represented by U+00D0 and U+00F0, respectively. These code points are inherited from the older ISO 8859-1 standard. In HTML, eth is represented by the Latin character entities Ð and ð. I can't seem to get it to work this way though. But I'm not exactly computer savvy if you know what I mean. |
| BigGus01-02-08, 09:43 PM | I can't seem to get it to work this way though. But I'm not exactly computer savvy if you know what I mean. Me neither. That quote means next to nothing to me. I was hoping you were going to say something like "hold down ctrl and alt while you press d". Thanks anyway. |
| Sorcen_Anenooata01-04-08, 11:32 AM | Thor is cool. And yeh its the belt. Anyway to do the ð, you hold alt and type 0240 on the number pad part of the keyboard and once you release alt the symbol of lowercase eth will show up like so ð. Using Microsoft Windows, one can hold Alt while typing 0208 or 0240 on the numeric keypad to produce the uppercase and lowercase forms, respectively. To help further, go to this page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_XML_and_HTML_character_entity_re ferences#References) and scroll down to the chart. On the chart you'll see the lines across look like this: Name - Character - Unicode code point... quot - " - U+0022 (34)... Anyway the bolded numbers there are what you what. Add 00's or a 0 to make it a four digit number when you type it otherwise you change the code and get other symbols. sp to get the quotation mark shown there you have to add 00's to make it 0034 and... " there we are. |
| Kain_Darkwind01-04-08, 03:19 PM | ð Huh. What do you know, it works. |
| BigGus01-04-08, 08:14 PM | ð Cool! Thanks Sorcen! |
