To trap a demigod? [Archive] - Wizards Community

How would one go about kidnapping or trapping a demigod? Is it possible to create an epic level ritual spell to bind the demigod within a warded space using the seeds Conceal (for the remote communication/hide vs. Scry), Ward (as an anti magic area up to 10th lvl magic), Transport (maybe used to create a Dimenional Anchor effect vs the Greater teleport), Reflect (as an additional buffer against magic up to 10th lvl) with a Permanent factor and a +30 to dispell check factor?

Granted the Sellcraft DC would be well over 2000 but using mitigating factors of a possible 70 casters expending 4th-9th lvl spell slots, a backlash, an additional 200 days and 10 hours casting time, and an XP burn of 9500 from ea. caster.... the Spellcraft DC could be dropped to nearly 50..... the DC of most of the Epic Spells and Ritual Spells....

Just wondering.... I've got a real ball buster of a DM I assume making things up as he goes who's thrown a demigod into the path of our party.... But we're backed by 3 epic casters, a rich king, and a good demigod of DR2...

To keep him within the ward after you get him there would be mastercraft shackles and force walls cast around the ward where the magic is still available to us and not the demigod himself.

We're assuming that it will work as the demigod himself isn't very strong (straight caster) and hopfully it'll hold him long enough to get some info from him and then try to kill him... Evil never wins!

The DM? Jeeze I've known this guy for years and Ive never been able to come up with something to overcome any obstacle he throws out.... I'm hoping he's not that big a dirt bag....

I don't know exactly when it kicks in, but at a certain rank deities gain immunity to things like dimensional anchor. I don't know for sure if demigods get this (I'm pretty sure the immunity kicks in for lesser gods and better though), but if they do, then you would basically need an ad hoc modifier for "overcome deific immunity." Unfortunately, there is no precedent that I am aware of for determining the DC of such an effect, so it is completely at the discretion of the DM (and I know just from these boards that there are some DMs who would probably let it fly for +50 DC, and others who wouldn't even allow it at +50,000 DC).

Of course, if demigods do not get that ability, then I don't really see why an ordinary dimensional lock + force cage wouldn't hold them for a second (or at least as long as it would take them to disintegrate or dispel the thing), so an epic version should work just fine.

Well, as far as the game's fluff is concerned, it's been done. The archmage Zagig Yragerne, while still a mortal, captured no less than nine demigods and imprisoned them beneath his castle (that's Castle Greyhawk, as in the new Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk adventure) for the better part of a century.

He was an epic-level spellcaster, and he had the help of numerous other epic-level characters and even - at one point, at least - an intermediate deity, and he had the aid of an artifact, an obelisk that cancels the powers of deities in its vicinity.

Than it shouldnt be too outspoken to suggest that the ritual spell would work... I'll be looking up the Archmages process of capturing the demigods but I've got no magic item that nullifies the powers of gods... seems easier to do in that sence... But Demigods don't have immunuty to epic anchors or normal ones for that matter....

Aside rom the "how do I get the demigod into the ward" situation the ward itself would do exactly what its made to.... assuming of course the final word with the DM is savvy...

And the idea we're cooking up to get the demigod there is the hope that we can make a magical masterwork set of shackles with a triggered epic forced teleportation spell enchantment (if able... I mean we also have an upperhand with having a good demigod on our side) with the desination within the ward & forcecage trap.... slapped on him hopefully with a sneak attack from a PC with an INSANE speciality in the form of a sneak attack (you know the type of character built around sneak attack...)

Any thoughts? On how to get the demi god there? or how the demigod would still be able to free himself and such?

The Castle Greyhawk adventures with insane mage that trapped several demi-gods that helped fuel his ascension might have some info in it. There are a couple of other 'cannon' instances of demi-god's being trapped, so at least it is in theory possible. Good luck, but perhaps with a demi-god, off their plane of influence, maybe... just maybe with a super epic group that has other divine backing.... (maybe).

I think the last or second last issue of Dragon magazine had a lesser version of the machine that Zagyg used to trap the demigods. You could use that machine as a base and expand on those principles.

Just a thought

I like blackmail, personally. Who or What does this demigod value above all else? Would you be able to steal/kidnap this thing? If so, then you just have to play keep-away with said demi-god. After that, get it to face you in combat, or better yet, to surrender a divine rank to you in exchange for said thing.
