I just read war of the spider queen book three, and the masked lord was one of the major parts of the book. I was intreaged by him and his preist Tzirik. Does anyone know where I can get info on either of them?

Vhaerun's a FR god. He's the drow patron of thieves, darkness, and drow males. He's the son of Lolth and brother of Eilistraee. Actually I think he may be half-brother...whatever.

Vhaerun is the most commonly worshipped deity by surface drow, surpassing Eilsitraee. His worship is strongest in Cormanthor. After the elves left Cormanthor, two different Vahaerun-worshipping drow groups set up shop there. House Jaelre lives in the old Elven court and wants to live in the old elven homes. The Clan Auzkovyn, meanwhile, are primarily nomads and want to wander throughout Cormanthor.

Both groups are evil, of course. House Jaelre has numerical and magical advantage over the Auzkovyn. however, the Auzkovyn are willing to accept Vhaerun-worshipping half-drow, humans, and possibly even full-blooded, non-drow elves into their fold, which may work out to their advantage in the long run. The Auzkovyn also have little taste for ceaseless warfare, which is why they left their original surface home in the High Forest. Thus the Auzkovyn are probably most likely to eventually find peace with the Dales.

The Auzkovyn and the Jaelre get along relatively well. Of course, for drow, that means that they don't slit each other's throats after knocking each other out with sleep-inducing arrows.

In either case, both groups of drow are in Cormanthor to stay and are too entrenched to be pushed out with anything other than years of war. The Jaelre, and the Auzkovyn more so, also want a home. Think of them both as being similar to the Jews in intent, if not alignment, when the Jews invaded Palestine and re-created Israel.

Most humans in the Dalelands don't know, however, that there are multiple groups of drow in Cormanthor.

I'm not sure on stats., but I know where you can get information. For starts, try the 3rd. edition Faiths and Pantheons. However, a better source is the 2nd. edition Demihuman Deities, back in the glory days when the Demonweb Pits were still just a part of the Abyss. It truly was the greatest generation... But I digress. The book has lots of details on all the Dark Seldarine. Ooh, I take that back about the stats. Here's the DiceFreak's version I found browsing in the Monstrous Deities section.

If you liked that book, you should ge the new Lisa Smedman novel Sacrifice of the Widow. Its a sort of continuation of the War of the Spider Queen series, although it was a bit less interesting in my opinion. Anyways Vhaeraun plays a pretty big part in it, and many of his priests are also gone into in depth.

yeah, but first I need to get the other three in WOSQ. all I need is the boxed set, then I'll try that one. is it part of a new series?

I personaly found it subpar to the other War of the Spider Queen books, due to the fact that it dealt mostly with new less developed characters, and Surface drow (which are mildly lame IMHO)

By the way, I've heard rumors that Vhaerun's and Mask's cults have clashed at first, due to the relative similarity of the deities. Would that be true?

Oh, and afaik Vhaeraun is indeed the son of Corellon and Araunshee (a.k.a. Lloth), and hence a brother of Eilistraee. I actually think he was also the father of Selvetarm, weirdly enough.

Vhaeraun is the Son Of Lolth and Corellon (and the Brother of Eilistraee) and with Zandilar (now an aspect of Sharess) the Father of Selvetarm.

I thought mask was his ally... I found this online.

Vhaeraun already has Shar and Talona as allies (and Mask, too, but he's wary of him because Mask's to eager to increase his portfolio).
