The latter name is unofficial, from Gary Gygax's Gord books. "The Iron Wastes" is the proper name. "Rime Thuras" is what it's called by worshipers of the Norse pantheon call it. |
| Hammerhead10-31-07, 06:03 PM | Wouldn't it have to be official if Gygax himself made it up? |
| Romtos10-31-07, 06:53 PM | Wouldn't it have to be official if Gygax himself made it up? Nope, he's no reliable source for that. He doesn't, in contrast with popular believe, define anymore what D&D is all about. Just because Rowling mentioned that Dumbledore is gay, does anyone percieve him as such? |
| ripvanwormer10-31-07, 10:55 PM | Gygax used the word in books that weren't published by TSR or WotC. Just because Rowling mentioned that Dumbledore is gay, does anyone perceive him as such? Yes. But Rowling still owns the character. |

Just because Rowling mentioned that Dumbledore is gay, does anyone percieve him as such? You're right about Gygax/D&D, but I would say the example of Rowling/Dumbledore is not the same. She *does* define what the Harry Potter verse is about. Even for the movies. She specifically mentioned that she had the a line in the next movie rewritten as it referenced Dumbledore having had a heterosexual romance in his past, something which she knew was impossible. |
