| Hammerhead10-12-07, 01:46 AM | In the Hordes of The Abyss book it says something about how the demons discovered an entity in the plane of vacuum called Sun Sing who created the vacuum gates. Does anyone know anything more about the mysterious Sun Sing? Im guessing maybe hes a vacuum archomental? |
| Igfig10-12-07, 02:17 AM | Well, technically he would be the vacuum archoquasielemental, but that's close enough. He's rumoured to be the last of the void mephits, or a powerful lich or demilich (or a mephit demilich?). He's probably the most evil and least sociable of the princes of elemental evil. Nobody knows much about him at all, though some say that he has a variety of undead agents roaming the multiverse, looking for the pieces to some sort of puzzle. Whether it's a physical puzzle or a metaphorical one made of information is unknown; the only thing of which we can be sure is that it's terribly evil. |
| Hammerhead10-12-07, 02:40 AM | Does he come from Chinese mythology? His name sounds like it. |
| Hammerhead10-12-07, 02:45 AM | Pretty sure he can't be a demilich since he was around before there were even mortals |
| Rohano10-13-07, 07:27 AM | Go here (http://www.planewalker.com/index.php) and run a search. I believe Sun Sing should be present and well-documented there. However, I should warn you; if you find Sun Sing, he'll follow you back to your home. And the gates to vacuum will be a burden on your continued existence. |
| Shemeska the Marauder10-13-07, 08:58 AM | Sun Sing originally appeared in the 2e Inner Planes sourcebook, which is the only place besides FC:I that he/she/it has been discussed. Short answer though: nobody knows who or what Sun Sing actually is, just that it dwells in quasielemental vacuum (within a pocket of negative energy on the border of Negative) and is exceedingly powerful and evil. I wouldn't not include Sun Sing (or any of the para or quasielemental lords save Cryonax) as a prince of elemental evil, because that label only applies to those archomentals who share an origin tied to Tharizdun. You can be evil and an archomental without being an elemental prince of evil. Besides, it's not even certain that Sun Sing is an archomental, or even an elemental being at all. We don't know, but given how exceedingly early he appears in the history of the planes it suggests that he's something pretty far from the prosaic. Also, though Sun Sing was encountered by the early Obyriths, the timeline is hazy on if the tanar'ri had been created yet when that occurred, so we can't say definatively if Sun Sing predates mortals or not. |
| EvilVegan10-13-07, 09:07 AM | He's a mean one. He likes attacking Whoville and stealing all the presents. http://www.planewalker.com/encyclopedia/encyclopedia.php?intEntryID=3822 |
| Rohano10-14-07, 07:03 AM | I think that if he doesn't appear in 4e (which is likely, seeing as how his home and his foes will all be erased or rewritten), I might have to write an adventure for him. But how to write him up? Something reminiscent of a Lovecraftian Elder God? Perhaps Sun Sing is Cthulu's long lost cousin... or just a low DR vacuum quasielemental or outsider with the vacuum subtype. Hah! Outsider (Vacuum) *imagines Lady of Pain writing Hoover on him and using him to clean Sigil...* Ain't no cleanin' power like a vacuum gate. |
| sciborg310-14-07, 09:33 AM | I had a story where the Void was tainted by the obyriths, and Sun Sing became a corrupted void "elemental" who tried to conquer the kingdoms of being (The Multiverse, or at least the Abyss) and Non-Being (Vacuum). He was defeated, imprisoned in Vacuum as much as something like him could be by an alliance between Pale Night (the Mother of the Abyss in a sense) and a void dreamer who ends up having to shut Sun Sing in from the outside and thus forced to make due with a lesser absence for a home - Shadow as opposed to true Void, thus becoming a "mere god" aka Erebus. |

You can be evil and an archomental without being an elemental prince of evil. My bad. I'll put a few more points into my Pedantry skill next level. ;) Besides, it's not even certain that Sun Sing is an archomental, or even an elemental being at all. He was included on Dragon's list of archomentals last year (I think it was last year). Now, I know their accuracy could be called into question, and it's true that he might not be originally elemental in nature, but I don't think it's a big stretch to say that it's possible to ascend to archomentality in a manner similar to how one can ascend to demon lordship. If he is an archomental, then he probably does predate the tanar'ri, if only because all the other archomentals (except Zaaman Rul) do. They were already old and powerful when the Queen of Chaos made war on the vaati, which means they probably existed before the tanar'ri. But how to write him up? Something reminiscent of a Lovecraftian Elder God? Perhaps Sun Sing is Cthulu's long lost cousin... or just a low DR vacuum quasielemental or outsider with the vacuum subtype. Hah! Outsider (Vacuum) Well, Dragon Magazine statted up nine archomentals in #347 and #353. Their stats were all around the CR 25 unique outsider(make that elemental) mark. I'd probably stat him similarly to those, with the abilities of a vacuum quasielemental, plus a few more. In fact, when I get another look at my magazines next week, I might attempt a first draft of stats. |
| Hammerhead10-15-07, 08:31 PM | Don't think he should be a Cthulu like monster since there are enough creatures like that already. I also had I thought that maybe he's an evil blackball (from ELH), since they are really powerful and have the ability to create a vacuum. |

Out of curiosity do you remember the page in the Fiendish Codex. Every time I look through it I can't find the refference. (Sorry if this counts as highjacking the topic.) |

| Hammerhead10-28-07, 03:07 PM | Is there any info in the Inner Planes book that isn't in the FC1? |
