| Sigurd van Norhusen08-14-07, 02:07 PM | In the blue corner: The Spelljammer itself. This massive vessel accidentally destroyed its own crystal sphere and is now threatening Realmspace! In the red corner: Ao, the mysterious overgod of Realmspace. Quite possibly an embodiment of the crystal sphere itself. Utterly uninterested in mortal affairs. Who wins? :D ;) |
| Taeldrin Laesrash08-14-07, 02:19 PM | Can't tell, both have undefined levels of power. Personally, though, I'd love to see Ao smacked around. |
| Kain Darkwind08-14-07, 02:24 PM | The 20th level heroes called on to stop them. 20th level heroes should be able to handle anything. Ao should be CR 24, so heroes can fight him. Spelljammer is probably a CR 22. |
| Quaoar08-14-07, 02:39 PM | Ao wins. The Spelljammer is not unbeatable, and several have been destroyed. When Ao destroys this one, one of its children will take its place. |
| vegetalss408-14-07, 02:52 PM | The 20th level heroes called on to stop them. 20th level heroes should be able to handle anything. Ao should be CR 24. i think you are wrong. Ao is the overgod who can kick all the gods ***es without proplem. So he is at leat cr 25:P |
| Kain Darkwind08-14-07, 03:07 PM | i think you are wrong. Ao is the overgod who can kick all the gods ***es without proplem. So he is at leat cr 25:P That makes it difficult to use him in anything but a 20th level combat. What if my high level heroes are only 17th level? They should not have to feel useless just because you 'take it to 11' people want uber powerful stats no one uses. They should be able to save the world from Ao's tyranny just as much as 20th level characters. Demogorgon is CR 23, Ao only needs to be just more powerful than that. |
| Sigurd van Norhusen08-14-07, 03:25 PM | Demogorgon is CR 23, Ao only needs to be just more powerful than that. Ao = Demogorgon with Improved Toughness. :) |

Who wins? :D ;) Ao destroys the Spelljammer, then, the closest Smalljammer(the spelljammer's babies) grows to full size and goes about it's captain's business. |
| ripvanwormer08-14-07, 10:23 PM | I'm tempted to say that Ao only has power over gods, and has no ability to influence rogue vessels that come in from other crystal spheres. Fortunately, he's far from the only powerful entity with an interest in keeping Realmspace intact, and I suspect any of the sphere's greater gods could bar its entry or transport it elsewhere. (Ao could threaten to demote them if they don't - it's all about delegating) |
| supernerd22208-14-07, 10:46 PM | I'd say the Spelljammer would win. It can go around picking up powerful entities for the battle against Ao. Ao only has himself and every god in the Forgotten Realms pantheon. The Spelljammer is freaking huge (as an actual adjective, not a size category), and could probably carry thousands of epic-levels, dragons, willing deities, outsiders, and other such things that could kick the respective asses of Ao and all his friends. |
| Encard08-14-07, 11:22 PM | Personally, I'd say three giant squirrels with a mask and a robe... :P Aside from that, the Spelljammer. |
| Millennium08-15-07, 09:44 AM | I'm tempted to say that Ao only has power over gods, and has no ability to influence rogue vessels that come in from other crystal spheres. Perhaps not directly, but he could still chuck Realmspace-native meteors at it and stuff. Entities from different spheres fight each other all the time. |
| Sigurd van Norhusen08-15-07, 10:00 AM | I'm tempted to say that Ao only has power over gods, and has no ability to influence rogue vessels that come in from other crystal spheres. Technically, the Spelljammer never enters Realmspace. It just opens such a big hole that Phlogistion spreads in the crystal sphere and drifts towards the sun. |
| Anodai08-15-07, 10:40 AM | I'd certianately hope that Ao has a higher CR then Elminister... |
| Taeldrin Laesrash08-15-07, 11:01 AM | I'd certianately hope that Ao has a higher CR then Elminister... Elminster being Ed Greenwood incarnate, he probably wouldn't stand a chance. |
| Kain Darkwind08-15-07, 12:17 PM | I'd certianately hope that Ao has a higher CR then Elminister... One can hope, but it is not likely. For instance, Mask runs away from the Chaos Hound, who is CR 21. Thus Mask is probably less than CR 21. Elminster's CR doesn't enter into god-cosmic beings comparison. Ao only needs to be CR 24 to challenge high level parties. It will put him over most of the gods, over the Chaos Hound, and only that Night Serpent (the same one that will end the world) is going to have a higher CR. (26) Don't confuse yourself with issues like dragons and Chosen having a higher CR than Ao. That's powergamey and taking it to 11. |
| Sigurd van Norhusen08-16-07, 03:18 AM | It will put him over most of the gods, over the Chaos Hound, and only that Night Serpent (the same one that will end the world) is going to have a higher CR. (26) My level 26 Frenzied Berserker killed Dendar. :) And then the rest of the party. :( But at least Toril was saved! |
| vegetalss408-16-07, 03:34 AM | you missed my point it was sarcams thats why i used the :P Ao has greated the forgotten realm no mortals/gods/immortals from that cosmonology can beat him. Even the players, and Ao is by no means a tyran. |
| Sigurd van Norhusen08-16-07, 03:39 AM | Ao has not created the forgotten realms, current propaganda nonwithstanding. He may have created (or be) the crystal sphere of Realmspace, but that is all. |
| Sephiroth Do'Urden08-16-07, 06:21 AM | The 20th level heroes called on to stop them. 20th level heroes should be able to handle anything. Ao should be CR 24, so heroes can fight him. Spelljammer is probably a CR 22. 24?! Asmodeus has a CR of 32 and Ao uses his Ruby rod as a cocktail stick! |
| Kain Darkwind08-16-07, 06:33 AM | 24?! Asmodeus has a CR of 32 and Ao uses his Ruby rod as a cocktail stick! You are a revised edition behind. The 3.5 'aspect of Asmodeus' is in nearly all ways as powerful as the 3.0 'CR 32' version, and is CR 27. His power level didn't drop, he just got a more accurate CR. However, that doesn't really matter. My 20th level heroes shouldn't have to feel they need munchkin epic rules just to beat an overgod. He needs a CR 24 so that they can kill him and take his stuff. Think about it. Chaos Hound chases around gods. He's CR 21. Thus, gods must be CR 20. My players are 20th level, so they should be able to beat up gods. And the overgod, who is more powerful than all of them (CR 24!) should go down after a hard, campaign ending fight. |
| ElberethSilverleaf08-20-07, 03:03 AM | Spare me the "AO" nonsense. HE/it was merely a "ghost in the machine" literary device to justify realms shattering events in the novels and carried over the the campaign/game setting simply to add more plot devices to sell more material. He never existed in my campaigns. The whole idea of an overgod makes me want to barf and stinks of certain religous nutters at TSR/WotC trying to sneak in monotheist ideas into an inherently polytheistic setting. |
