1) One player claims that Manyshot should be applicable to crossbows since it does not specifiy that it needs to be bows. I claimed that crossbow cannot be used since it specifically says "You can fire multiple arrows simultaneously..." (implying only bows can be used). Who is correct?

2) Also, I am not sure if his character is completely legal, but I cannot find anything wrong. He created a 6th level halfling ranger (STR 8, DEX 18) with a riding dog companion (which he rides). He took Archery combat style (Rapid shot + Manyshot), and feats Rapid Reload, Mounted Combat, and Mounted Archery. But his main weapon is a light *crossbow* (which seems against the whole concept of "Archery combat style," but that's another story).

So, it seems he can fire 3 bolts per round at +6/+6/+1 (Base) +4 (Dex) +1 (Size) -2 (Rapid Shot) = +9/+9/+4 to hit (1d6 dmg each) while zipping around (on the dog) at 40' per round (+7/+7/+2 at double move 80'). It seem that he has removed almost all the penalties for size, STR, encumbrance (e.g., he wears chain shirt), etc. Am I missing something?

Manyshot cannot be used in conjunction with any weapon that doesn't use arrows for projectiles. Thus, while any bow will do, crossbows will not.
