[3.0]Invisibility and Polymorph [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-03-07, 04:51 PM A Wizard casts Improved Invisibility. then Polymorph, turning into... let's say a badger. is the resulting badgerwizard visible or invisible? Is the wizard visible or invisible wen he dismisses polymorph two rounds later?

04-04-07, 11:31 AM Polymorph does not make magic effects on your character go away so long as they are still relevant. If a wizard cast Enlarge Person on himself, then Polymorph, the Enlarge Person effect would still be present, but his badger form would not be an eligible target. Once Polymorph was dismissed, and the wizard was once again humanoid, he is again a valid target for Enlarge Person, and is once again enlarged. Since Greater Invisibility has You or creature touched as the target, when polymorphed, there is no reason for it to go away. The magic is still there. When you stop the polymorph effect, so long as the duration of the Greater Invisibility has not lapsed, you maintain it throughout.

Edit: Oops, I didn't notice that you were asking about 3.0 invis. I was answering based on 3.5. I don't know about 3.0. Sorry about that.

Interesting, so if a wizard enlarged himself with Enlarge Person, the polymorphed himself into a badger, would he be an enlarged badger?

1) A spell that alters your shape (like polymorph) might be construed as over-writing any previous spells that altered your shape (like enlarge) under the following rule (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicOverview/castingSpells.htm#combiningMagicalEffect s):
"One Effect Makes Another Irrelevant
Sometimes, one spell can render a later spell irrelevant. Both spells are still active, but one has rendered the other useless in some fashion. "
2) If you did allow these to be combined, then it still may not stack if you used polymorph to increase your size, since enlarge person (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/enlargePerson.htm) says:
"Multiple magical effects that increase size do not stack"
(and the RotG (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/rg) has indicated that polymorph is included in that restriction).
