Fight with Warhorse

If you direct your war-trained mount to attack in battle, you can still make your own attack or attacks normally. This usage is a free action.

Does a wizard have to make this check to cast a spell? Just offensive or all spells? The wording is odd, so I can't tell.

From the SRD section on Spellcasting

Vigorous Motion
If you are riding on a moving mount, taking a bouncy ride in a wagon, on a small boat in rough water, below-decks in a storm-tossed ship, or simply being jostled in a similar fashion, you must make a Concentration check (DC 10 + the level of the spell you’re casting) or lose the spell.

Violent Motion
If you are on a galloping horse, taking a very rough ride in a wagon, on a small boat in rapids or in a storm, on deck in a storm-tossed ship, or being tossed roughly about in a similar fashion, you must make a Concentration check (DC 15 + the level of the spell you’re casting) or lose the spell.

Your DM will likely declare that a horse engaging in melee is probably in vigorous motion (if not violent motion if it charged into combat this round). If the horse you're riding is in melee, you're also likely in somebody's threatened area. Casting while in a threatened area usually provokes an AoO, unless you cast defensively.

Casting Defensively
If you want to cast a spell without provoking any attacks of opportunity, you must make a Concentration check (DC 15 + the level of the spell you’re casting) to succeed. You lose the spell if you fail.

These don't exactly stack but you have to check for each, according to the SRD description of the Concentration skill.

If more than one type of distraction is present, make a check for each one; any failed Concentration check indicates that the task is not completed.

Slimgauge, you gave me a lot of info on spellcasting on a horse, but didn't actually answer my question.

Then I've misunderstood your question, sorry. I'll try again.
When you say "this check", you mean the DC-10 ride check in the table 'Ride DCs' to 'Fight with Warhorse', correct ? The description of the 'Fight with Warhorse' is as you quoted it.

So your question might be

Does a mounted wizard need to make this ride check to take an action to cast an attack spell while his wartrained mount engages in combat ? Is the answer different for different spells ? (i.e., what constitutes an attack spell ?)

Am I right ?

Assuming I'm right, I looked at the various ride tasks listed. Unfortunately, of all the ride tasks, this one is the only one (except for Spur Mount) that doesn't say what happens if you fail the check. I'd say it's most likely similiar to the 'Control Mount in Battle' task, a similar task intended for mounts not trained for war and not required for warmounts. If you fail that Ride check, you can do nothing else in that round.

If you fail the 'Fight with Warhorse' task check, would you mess up your own action or prevent your warmount from attacking ? I'd think it's more likely the same result as failing the 'Control Mount in Battle' task check, that is, you lose your action(s) for the round.

If I was the GM, I'd say you need to make the 'Fight with Warhorse' Ride task check to make your own attack OR SIMILAR ACTION (emphasis mine). But I can't "prove" that with RAW. It would be a LOT clearer if they worded it something like this ...

Fight with Warhorse
If you direct your war-trained mount to attack in battle, you can still take your action(s) (including attack or attacks) normally. This usage is a free action. If you fail the Ride check, you can take no action(s) in that round.
