| demetri0us04-09-08, 04:17 PM | Hey folks, Here is a quick question for the DM's out there. Two questions in one really: Would you allow the "Splitting" weapon special ability from Champions of Ruin? If so, would you allow sneak/skirmish damage to be added to every arrow? Just in case you don't know the SA, here is the short version: +3 enhancement - causes the ammunition to split into two, striking the same target but using two separate attack rolls. Basically allowing 3-4 arrow shots to be 6-8 per round. Thoughts? Thanks in advance! |

At a +6 bonus (without using epic pricing) it'd be much more reasonable for the effect. |
| wraithstrike04-13-08, 03:43 AM | I would never allow it in my games. It is completely broken. Imagine having improved manyshot or rapid shot which gets you 4 or 5 arrows then splitting them, and then getting skirmish or sneak attack on every arrow + whatever extra abilities your weapons has, and on top of that arrow can be enchanted so that is even more nonsense, and I almost forgot poison on every arrow. At higher levels monsters are very good at fort saves, but if you make them roll enough times the law of averages eventually forces a nat 1. I ban it for my PC's sake, because if they can do it to my NPC's then my NPC's can do it to them(cuts down on SoD spells). |
| runestar04-13-08, 03:50 AM | I definitely find it too strong. Consider the speed weapon property, which at +3, just grants you 1 extra attack (and I must still use the full attack option). At the same price, splitting doubles my normal allotment of attacks (and to top it off, I do not use any extra arrows!). Easily +6 at least (and I am not sure if I should impose epic pricing or not). |
