Now, when they were traveling through a vampire's dungeon, he came across a magical trap that I created (It created a Wall of Force on one side of a 15 ft. gap and a Wall of Fire on the other side) and I wasn't sure what he would detect and be able to identify with Spellcraft. I ended up telling him that about each spell associated with the trap. Was I right in this, or would he only be able to detect the Detect Good spell that was the sensor for the trap and not the Wall's since the trap hasn't activated yet? |

From the 3.5 FAQ: "Detect magic locates magical traps, but it can’t identify anything more than the location and strength of the aura revealed (and, with a successful Spellcraft check, the school of magic involved). Thus, technically the spell doesn’t actually reveal the fact that the magical trap is, in fact, a trap." However, I reckon that decent trap makers would know to put a thin sheet of lead in the correct location to hide a magical trap. |
