| perdera07-31-07, 02:39 PM | Can you tumble as part of a charge? I'd say no, because Charge has wording that says that it won't work if anything hinders your movement (Tumble is at half-speed). I'd say it relies on that full-speed momentum. Tumbling Charge sounds like a fun new feat though. |

I'd say it relies on that full-speed momentum. Tumbling Charge sounds like a fun new feat though. Acrobatic Charge is an ability shared by several classes (Swashbuckler and Thief-Acrobat, off the top of my head) that lets you Jump, Tumble, and Balance while charging. You must have a clear path toward the opponent, and nothing can hinder your movement (such as difficult terrain or obstacles). The question is (and I'm sure it's been answered somewhere on the boards already), if your skill checks are good enough to Jump over, Tumble past, or Balance on said terrain or obstacles at full speed without being "hindered," do said obstacles still "hinder your movement?" |
| Zealot08-01-07, 04:20 PM | Any one may tumble as part of a charge as long as they do so at run speed. The penalty is quite severe for that. I belive it's -20 to tumble at a run. Some times it's better to just use a move action to get to a creature with reach. If your speed is 30' you may tumble 15' at DC 15 and then take one normal attack. You could also tumble 30' at DC 25 followed by an attack. By the time you are lvl 17 you could even tumble 60' at DC 35 as part of a charge with little effort. |
| Eater_Of_Souls08-02-07, 01:57 PM | Using a skill in combat is usually considered as a full-round action, so I'd say you can either tumble or charge at the same rund but not both. Also since tumbling involves moving you can't move (as in from place to place) after tumbling only exeption is 5ft step, you can do move equivalents though such as attacking, drinking pot etc. Tumbling as a part of move action is doable but charge is a full-round action. |
| eamon08-02-07, 06:28 PM | Some skills are used as a part of another action. Tumble doesn't require a full round be spent performing it, you perform it as part of a move. Normally, you then move at half speed - to move at full speed, you'd need to take a -10 on the check. However, it's not clear exactly what "speed" you're moving while charging. Off the top of my head, -10 may be enough, and seems more literal an interpretation of the tumble skill, but -20 isn't unreasonable either. I'd allow it at -10. |
| Bopple08-03-07, 12:21 AM | Acrobatic Charge is an ability shared by several classes (Swashbuckler and Thief-Acrobat, off the top of my head) that lets you Jump, Tumble, and Balance while charging. The obstacles/difficult terrain requiring Tumble or Balance checks can certainly interfere with charging. However, there is nothing that indicates Jump check in itself prevents you from charging, unless you change your direction while jumping. For example, when you are jumping high(5' or more) over a large rock while charging forward, you need Acrobatic Charge. But when you are jumping over a chasm or a brook to charge, I don't think you would need Acrobatic Charge. |
| Zealot08-03-07, 07:48 PM | Per WoTC's "All About Movement, Part 2" Charge: As a full-round action you can move up to twice your speed directly toward a foe and make a single melee attack when you reach the foe. You must move at least 10 feet to the closest square from which you can attack your opponent and you must move to that square by the shortest path. If that path takes you through an obstacle or terrain that hampers your movement (including friendly creatures), you cannot charge. Though you normally cannot charge into or through a space that contains another creature, you can charge as part of a bull rush action. You cannot charge if you're reduced to half speed. If you're capable of using only a standard action during your turn, you can charge as a standard action. As long as you're speed is not reduced you should be able to charge. The bonuses and negatives from charging come from attacking your foe with the speed of the charge. |
