Of course, nobody should probably be messing any character ten levels higher than them, but that also means that pretty much any deity should be able to instantly kill anyone within 40 feet of them if they have a caster level like they ought to. Since this isn't death magic, even though it kills outright, I can only think of two ways to stop it: Spell Resistance and Greater Spell Immunity. Anyone know any other ways to prevent instant death from Blasphemy? I'll point out that an unadvanced Balor has CL 20. So stay the hell away if you're 10th level or less or you're dead. Literally. (Thankfully a Pit Fiend, which also has Blasphemy, 'only' has CL18.) |

Same goes for gods. Silence can block out blasphemy. |

All the spells are subject to SR, so get your cleric a Strand of Prayer beads, and get him to cast SR on the party while the Bead of Karma is functional. Be [Evil] - that is, get the alignment subtype. (There are ways, although not many.) Had one monster (the very last fight in a level 2-20 campaign) with Blasphemy at will, CL30. Why didn't he use it? He was stark raving mad. He didn't want to kill the party, he wanted to get them to serve him (especially the half-celestial). I decided that he would use Blasphemy only if he were about to die - and that would not have saved him, as two of the party were [Evil]- including that half celestial. (I'd handed out a Strand in the last encounter before the PCs got to The Last Dungeon, and it lay unused in their treasure-bag). |
