Roflin 08-13-07, 03:59 PM	Can Martial Scripts be used by anyone? I have a SoulKnife PC who wants to purchase a Martial Script and use it. Under 'activiation' on p.147 of the Book of Nine Swords there is nothing that seems to inidicate that he can't use it. Since he is not a martial adept (i.e. he does not have levels in any of the classes from Book of Nine Swords), his martial adept class initiator level would be 1/2 his regular class levels as described under 'multiclass characters' p.39. Although his own initiator level never really comes into play anyway since the maneuver would be excecuted at the level of the martial adept who created the martial script. Nowhere does it mention under 'activation' that a Use Magic Device check would be necessary. My only hesitation is that these scripts are very similar to Arcane or divine scrolls which are unusable by anyone who does not have the spell on the scroll in their class spell list. The only way someone who doesn't have the spell on their class list can use the scroll is Use Magic Device. Should the Martial Scripts follow this same rule? Since the PC in question does not have the maneuver on his manuever list (since he has no maneuver list), shouldn't he have to make a Use Magic Device check to activate it?
Marcus Majarra 08-13-07, 05:45 PM	To activate a martial script, you need to be literate and either understand the alphabet used to write the martial script or make an appropriate Martial Lore check. Each martial script has its own initiator level, to which you default for the use of that maneuver. The use of martial scripts is not limited to only martial adept classes.
