I'd really like to know what is the formula for calculating a base save.

Bad save = (Class Level) / 3

Good Save = 2 + (Class Level) / 2

Good save = 2 + HD/2 + relevant modifiers. For multiclass characters, calculate them separately, then add them together.
Bad save = HD/3 + relevant modifers.

Personally, I prefer fractional saves where you do
(+2 if it has ever been good)+(levels of good/2)+(levels of bad/3)
