A charging character gets a +2 bonus on the Strength check made to bull rush an opponent. Even if you have extra attacks, such as from having a high enough base attack bonus or from using multiple weapons, you only get to make one attack during a charge. D20srd.org Pounce When a creature with this special attack makes a charge, it can follow with a full attack—including rake attacks if the creature also has the rake ability. D20srd.org Call to Battle (additional +3 to attack on charge) Book of Exalted Deeds (PG 50) Dive by attack (works like a charge, but the dragonborn must move a minimum of 20 feet and descend at least 10 feet) deals double damage with piercing weapon. Races of Dragons (PG 10) Valorous (2x damage on charge) Unapproachable East (PG 54) Inspire Strike extra attack as a free action on your highest BAB Book pf Exalted Deeds (PG 50) So hypothetical: Character has attack bonus of 30/25/20/15 average damage 2d4 +32 So a dive by attack with these features would have attacks of 35/30/25/20, 6d4 +96 damage pure attack. (Is this proper rules by raw) Now if the character uses Inspire Strike those attacks as a free action would not get counted as part of the charge...since it's free attacks, or is this incorrect? |
| Androcus Divinicus07-25-07, 03:26 AM | Could you provide the source of these? Obviously Charge is in the PHB, but it'd be helpful in providing an answer to you, to be able to read the original text of the other rules. Regards, Justin. |

I think you're looking at 35/35/30/25/20 to hit, 6d4+96 dmg per hit, when you stack up all those options and feats. Highest BAB starts at 30. +2 for Charge, +3 for Call to Battle. Inspired Strike gives you the extra swing at that bonus. Your stated damage sounds right. You said base damage is 2d4+32. Dive By Attack gives x2 and Valorous gives x2 and the rule for multipliers is to always apply them to the base number, not to already-multiplied numbers, i.e. they produce growth linearly instead of on an exponential curve. So Dive By Attack gives an additional 2d4+32, Valorous another 2d4+32, for a total of 6d4+96. |
| Marcus Majarra07-25-07, 11:35 PM | GooferStud, your calculations are correct. The pouncing dive would be resolved as +35/+30/+25/+20, dealing 6d4+96 damage on each attack. Using Inspire Strike would grant an extra attack at +30 that deals 2d4+32. |
| runestar07-25-07, 11:48 PM | To be honest, I have my doubts if charging benefits apply to all your attacks, or just to one of them. For example, the damage bonus from powerful charge feat applies to only one of your attacks, even if you are normally able to make multiple attacks in a charge. In that same vein, I wonder if a paladin charger with dire charge feat and wielding a lance while mounted receives the tripling of damage to all his lance attacks, or just to the first attack. Same goes for the OP's question... |
