| thepuregamer05-12-07, 12:07 AM | One of my players is thinking of charming a friendly npc and asking the npc to kill other creatures. The idea being that if the charmed creature kills stuff, since he is doing it under the players influence, the player will get experience for the kill. I am trying to figure out what would be reasonable in terms of gaining xp for this creatures kills. Are there rules in the dmg for this kind of thing? note I am giving out experience by the CR's of the monsters killed. |
| Geogoose05-12-07, 12:59 AM | Sorry, but I'm going to play Master of the Obvious here: How does charming a Friendly NPC change anything ;) Seriously, though, I think the root of the post, "I have a PC who wants to use Friendly NPC's to assist in battle." In general, a Friendly attidude NPC will assist with information and the like, but will not take major risks to help out the PC. Since the NPC is still run by the DM with its motivations intact, it could turn out that fighting alongside the PC's would come naturally, but that would be very specific to the particular NPC. It's the DM's call. A Charmed town guard will likely let his Friends pass with little trouble, but would doubtfully leave his post to go dungeon diving without some other motive. |

| allenchan05-12-07, 01:18 AM | if the pc stays at home and drinks his tea by a fire, obviously not. If hes right next to the npc tossing spells and aiding him, then yes, but then the xp is going to be between the two. |
