Chosen of Deity [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-26-08, 02:08 PM Does anyone know where (or if) the "template" for becoming a Chosen of a Deity can be found?

I only know what Chosen of Mystra does, since i've read the 7 Sisters and Elminster many times, but what if i want to make someone Chosen of Hextor, or Chosen of Pelor?

04-29-08, 02:56 PM There are no generic rules for creating a Chosen of [Deity] template, or a set formula for doing so.

The closest thing to an overall definition of what a Chosen actually is can be found as a parenthetical side note in the description of the Harpers, an organization in the Forgotten Realms which has several Chosen as members;Chosen are characters specially selected by deities to serve them at particularly dangerous tasks and who are therefore given special powers.

Some Chosen in the Forgotten Realms have specific powers (and templates that describe them in game terms), such as Chosen of Mystra, Bane, and Deneir. Other Chosen of Deities in the realms derive no powers from their status, as it is little more than a title (such as Tchazzar the Chosen of Tiamat).

That said, if you wanted to create a Chosen of [Deity] template from scratch then you would add or invent an assortment of special attacks and special qualities that would be added to the creature, and then assign a modifier to the creature's CR that is equitable to how much these abilities increase the creature's effectiveness in combat. Optimally these special attacks and qualities would flavored or otherwise represent either the portfolio of the Deity or be tailored to the tasks or duties the Deity has quested the mortal to perform.

04-30-08, 12:03 PM There is "a" template for a Chosen, the Chosen of Bane template on page 213 of Faiths and Pantheons. EDIT: And a slightly different one I believe in Fzoul Chembryl's main description.

There is a Chosen-born Regional choice in Champions of Valor, but that has almost no impact because it is simply a starting Region you can choose, with the idea you are related to the Chosen of some deity through blood, and powers aren't passed on like that.

I think you may also be able to find some scattered info about particular Chosen's in various books, but probably not much more on the way of "making" someone a Chosen, for 3.X anyway. You will basically have to make some up for many of the deities.

05-05-08, 09:07 PM Well now here's an idea I never thought of when making my "Chosen" character.. *shrugs* Though being granted a Divine Blessing (free +6 Cha enhancement) during prayer time and an extended life span was cool additions. Though being able to eventually spontaneously cast all her Domain spells is good enough for me. :D

There's also that "Godblood" template from Monster Manual V (or whatever it was called). That could be tweaked a little, right?
