| tasslehoff22005-08-07, 11:21 AM | http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/tt/20070508a The page I have linked above mentions the following about using concentration to cast spells: In addition a vrock can use greater teleport and telekinesis. Of course with Concentration +20, a vrock needs to roll a 10 for telekinesis and 12 for greater teleportation, making them iffy propositions to flee a losing fight. Teleporting away is a good choice for a last resort, but the abilities are better used earlier, or in tandem with a blocker to keep foes from melee range. I am somewhat confused because I would have thought that assuming they are talking about casting defensively the DCs would be 20 and 22 right? So the vrock would need a 0 and a 2 to cast the spells defensively. Is this just whoever wrote the article being very confused or are they talking about something that I have never heard of or was there some erratta on casting defennsively that I never heard of? thanks in advance |

They screwed up, and thus Vrocks can indeed escape (and recast mirror image) with great ease, making them really annoying recurring villains (or they teleport a long way up and use wings to stay there:- instant battle-fleeing, now spam telekinesis. The article is really quite rubbish. Despite its claims that it is a pointless tactic, I've seen Vrocks get off dance of ruin in combat, or only just fail to do so at the last minute. Mirror image is great at protecting Vrocks unless you can spam area effects enough to kill the vrocks that way (with spell resistance, electricity immunity, and fire, cold and acid resistance 10, not an easy task. *tangent* My current party *hate* vrocks, as they have a warlock instead of a wizard and thus no magic missile for image popping and few area effects for killing the Vrock despite the images. P.S. I once used chain lightning on a load of vrocks doing a dance of ruin. No damage due to electricity immunity, but it could target all the vrocks and all their images, popping the images and giving the other players the chance to actually kill a Vrock before they finished dancing (recasting mirror image would require aborting the dance). It was funny to see my GMs face though - "you're casting WHAT? I just told you they were immune after you made your knowledge check!" |
