| Zinger209912-22-07, 11:14 PM | I have a case scenario where two rulebooks are contradicting each other. On page 63 of Libris Mortis: The Book of Undead, the spell Blade of Pain and Fear is listed as a 2nd level spell for Wizards, Sorcerers, and Clerics. On page 30 of Spell Compendium, the same spell is listed as being a 3rd level spell for those casters. The most recent erata of both books haven't mentioned the spell or this discrepency. Libris Mortis was first printed in October of 2004. Spell Compendium was first printed in December of 2005. Which one is corect? What do you do in similar ocurences? I've ruled that the Spell Compendium is the correct one, as it is the more recent printing. Am I incorect in my ruling? Thanks in advance. |

| Krusk12-23-07, 02:21 AM | The most recent version of a spell, feat, or any other ability always takes precidence over the older ones. The spell compendium may even have a blurb about that at the begining of it, not sure. note, i generally consider anything my players have been using to be grandfathered in, if wizards puts out an eratta or newer print of the ability. |

If/when they have to draw up new characters, though, then you can default to the newest version. Just let 'em know, though. |
