A cleric in my game of Wee Jas is using the magic domain, and I have a couple questions.

1. When using an Arcane scroll, is the cleric subject to Arcane Spell Failure chance?
- Per the description on Scrolls, that says you do, and the fact that it still is an Arcane spell, I have said yes so far. If it was an Arcane-ish spell from his Magic Domain list, then it would be a no, as those are Divine.

2. When using an Arcane scroll, the description says the character needs the requisite ability modifier. Would that be a high enough Wisdom (for his own divine spells), or Int/Cha (for a Wiz/Sorc arcane spell)?
- I have no idea on this one. The telling statement is in the Magic Domain description, where it says "as a Wizard". Does this mean he would need a 12 Int to cast a level 2 arcane scroll?

Thanks for the help!

You incur arcane spell failure for activating any kind of arcane scroll. This is also true for characters relying on Use Magic Device. Keep in mind that even if the spell on the scroll can be found in a divine spell list that you have access to, the fact that the scroll is arcane incurs arcane spell failure. Thus, even having the Magic domain won't help you avoid the arcane spell failure associated with an arcane scroll of identify.

Since having the Magic domain implies activating as a wizard, then you need to meet requirements as if you were a wizard. Thus, to activate a scroll of a 2nd-level wizard spell, you need to have Int 12.

Many thanks Marcus. Both of those are what we had thought, we just were unsure on the second one.
