| aotrscommander02-07-08, 05:25 PM | Tonight's session ended with an encounter with a Clay Golem and it's Cursed Wound ability. It raised an interesting question. Cursed Wound (Ex) The damage a clay golem deals doesn’t heal naturally and resists healing spells. A character attempting to cast a conjuration (healing) spell on a creature damaged by a clay golem must succeed on a DC 26 caster level check, or the spell has no effect on the injured character. The party contains a Crusader (with Martial Spirit) and a Shadow Sun Ninja and a Dread Necromancer (Undead + Touch of the Shadow Sun = effective infinite out-of-combat healing). Neither of these abilities are really natural healing, and neither of them are spells, so I was had to think a bit how they interacted with Cursed Wound. On the fly, I made the characters make an Initiator level check instead of a caster level check. (Of course, out of combat the entire point was moot, since the Shadow Sun Ninja just took effectively longer to patch everybody up). This was a bit of a grey area, though, so I thought I'd bring it up here and see if anyone else had any thoughts. I figure there are three options: 1) count both options as natural healing (which doesn't make a lot of sense, especially for touch of the Shadow Sun) 2) treat both options as completely bypassing the curse altogether, being neither conjuration (healing) nor natural healing (which seems to be letting the PCs off a bit lightly) or 3) Do what I did, which is make an Initiator level check. Or something completely different. I am right (or at least partially right)? (I'm pretty sure option 1 is incorrect, so ultimately, it didn't make much difference to the game once the combat ended, but I thought it was a point of potenrial debate.) |

The Crusader's healing abilities are martial maneuvers (and nonsupernatural at that). I assume this qualifies as (Ex). |
