A quick-ish question regarding the Disguise Self and the Disguise skill:

Both allow you to disguise yourself as other humanoid races (assuming you were a humanoid to begin with). So does that mean 1) You can disguise yourself as gnomes/halflings (since they are smaller then you, assuming you are medium sized), and 2) If you can disguise yourself as them, do you get the bonuses/penalties of being that size?

I'm pretty sure the answer to 1 is yes and the answer to 2 is no (from a RAW standpoint) but that doesn't make sense to me from a realistic standpoint. =\

The reason I am asking is that I am dealing with Changelings (EBCS) and they have disguise self at will (self only, just body not clothing) and the material doesn't really say one way or the other but it does mention changelings who have disguised themselves as gnomes/halflings.

Thanks for any help you can give.

The disguise self spell (which fuels the minor change shape ability of changelings) allows you to appear as if you were 1 foot shorter or taller than your actual height. The smallest changelings are 5'3", making it impossible for them to emulate the actual height of any halflings or gnomes (even the tallest ones). Basically, it'll be a matter of convincing onlookers of the validity of your disguise (which can be translated in RAW as a hefty bonus to their Spot checks to see through the disguise, +4 seems appropriate).

In any case, even if you do allow for disguise to allow the changeling to seem like a gnome or halfling, he gains none of the mechanical benefits or drawbacks inherent to their size.

Ok, thanks. I hate it when the fluff contradicts the crunch :( It makes things so randomly confusing.
