... no, no, this is the appropriate forum, let me assure you. :D

Let us say that we have a vampire who has used her dominate person special ability on a near by weak willed rogue. She is waiting to take the opportunity to use her new ally (for the next few days at least), to sow discord in the folks that are bothering her in her lair.

Here is the questions.

1) How can you tell if a person is being dominated, especially if they are not acting unnormal?

2) How can you remove the dominate person effect?

Any insights would be useful.

Thanks,

1) How can you tell if a person is being dominated, especially if they are not acting unnormal?

As per the description of dominate person, a successful sense motive check will reveal the person is being dominated once the rogue was given a command. Prior to that, as supernatural abilities are magical, I would say detect magic would work.

2) How can you remove the dominate person effect?

Well, the effect is supernatural, so it cannot be dispelled. However, it does not function in an antimagic field. Also, I would say that break enchantment would work. Finally, per the spell’s description, the dominated person gets another save chance if it is forced to do something against its nature. I’d say you as DM would have some discretion here.

Read the spell description. It's all in there.

Detect magic would only indicate a spell aura and a spellcraft check can indicate its an enchantment spell, but none of that actually indicates the aura is from a dominate spell

Break Enchantment can break someone out of it, and Protection from X spells will supress the effect temporarily.
