If you have a BaB of +1 you can take a free action as part of a regular move to draw the weapon, and then make a standard (1) attack. But I don't see any provision that would allow someone to take a free action to draw as part of charge. Which is also essentially moving and then making 1 attack, just faster and with a little more reckless abandon. It seems like you should be able to - at least based on all of the movies I've seen ;) Or maybe this is just a case of 'don't run with scissors' (or axes) It seems as if you can't draw as part of a full run either, so I guess the no charge and draw is consistent with that (except, of course, that the person charging may actually be moving the same exact distance as someone just using a regular move action and then making a standard attack - and a charge is only 2x rather than 3 or 4x). I guess saying 'you can draw a weapon as a free action as part of a charge as long as you don't move any further than you could with a regular move action' would be more consistent, but a little bulky, and would still violate the don't run with scissors principle. Any thoughts? |

It is not a regular move. So, unless you have Quick Draw, you cannot draw a weapon and charge in the same round. If you have seen it in a movie, the character has quick draw or is not charging (or it is not a movie based on D&D actions--gasp!!!). Moving 30' and then attacking is still moving pretty quickly. It is not trudging up to an enemy while drawing the weapon, that is for sure. |

You may draw your weapon as part of a Move Action to reach your advesary, then use a Standard to Attack them, but no Charge. You need Quick Draw (or a Weapon Crystal [Least] of Returning per MagItmCmp) to get out your weapon and Charge (attack). It's a good balancer too, Quick Draw needs more respect since 3.5 ed. |
