Eberron: EotLQ, Dragon's Eye and a Changeling [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-15-07, 11:13 AM We're playing Eberron and we just finished chapter one of Eyes of the Lich Queen. So far we're loving it and having a wonderful time playing.

My question relates to the effect that the Alter of the Dragon's Eye provides. I understand the effects abilities and restrictions, but can a Changeling morph over it? Make it disappear? Change its color? Move it around his body?

I see both sides of this.

1) Its pointless for the PC to be branded, if he can make it disappear in an instant.

2) Its pointless to be a shape-shifter if you're branded.

So...DM's, what's the ruling on his changeling abilities with his new mark?

11-15-07, 02:31 PM I don't think there's an official ruling on this. I would rule that the changeling can mask the dragonmark with his minor change shape ability, so long as he's not activating its ability (which should be resist energy since changelings do not belong to any dragonmarked race).

11-15-07, 08:42 PM Hmm, without knowing the exact text of the Altar ability or the Changeling ability for that matter, I'd say it's best dealt with by analogy.

If you burned a scar into a Changeling with a red-hot blade, can they remove it by "changing"?

If they return to the form in which they were scarred, is the scar still there or is it gone?

I don't know of an official answer, but if you answer those two questions, the same logic should IMO apply to the altar's abilities. Although the method by which the mark is applied is different, the result seems to be the same.
