Does these classes improve their eldritch blast (from 2d6 to 3d6 etc.) whenever they get +1 level of existing invocation-using blast?

The ability Invocations says that they get new invocations and increase in caster level (including eldritch blast), but does not specifically say that their eldritch blast DAMAGE increases.

My DM has ruled that only caster level increases, thus the party's Eldritch disciple still only has +2d6 blast (at APL 8), which is fairly low, and he might be forced to take more Warlock levels instead of advancing in his PrC to get more damage.

This seems wrong to me, as the PrC are even called "Eldrich", and their class abilities improve the eldritch blast, combining them with arcane and divine spells.

Also, to support my argument, the game example of both PrCs are given more damage dice in eldritch blast than their warlock levels provides. Not that this is a solid one, as other PrC examples in the same book has been plain wrong (read: Abjurant Champion).

So, any errata? Or what do you think?

So, any errata? Or what do you think?I had the book on loan a couple of weeks back. I had the impression that the classes would increase Eldritch Blast. We'd really need the text of the ability to judge, and I returned the book to the owner.

As for the Abjurant Champion, it's not just the example that is wrong; the text of the PrC ability itself identifies Mage Armour as an abjuration spell, so all the example character does is follow the error in the PrC. (Unless Complete Mage redefined the Mage Armour spell as an abjuration).

Warlocks benefit in a specific way from prestige classes that have "+1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class" or "+1 level of existing spellcasting class" as a level advancement benefit. A warlock taking level in such a prestige class does not gain any of his class abilities, but he does gain an increased caster level when using his invocations and increased damage with his Eldritch Blast. Levels of prestige classes that provide +1 level of spellcasting class effectively stack with the warlock's level to determine his Eldritch Blast damage(treat his combined caster level as his warlock class level when looking at Table 1-1: The Warlock to determine Eldritch Blast damage). A warlock also gains new invocations known at there prestige class levels as though he had gained a level in the warlock class.

....That's like the 12th time I've had to cite that passage.

NOTE: Some editing was done so it complies with the errata for Eldritch Blast.

TY, just what I asked for. Stupid that the designers didn't include the "increased EB damage" line in the PrCs itself, especially the ones designed for the class itself.

The thing is, Complete Arcane didn't boast any warlock-oriented PrCs, and including such a statement would imply overhauling subsequent rules supplements with extra lines of text. Since you need to have the Complete Arcane to play a warlock, it's logical that you'd find most of the information you need in the warlock class description.

no, stupid that they didn't just make the damage based on caster level instead of making it a separate progression of its own...

only reason i can really see for not doing it that way is they were worried about things like Practiced Spellcaster boosting the damage, but a line of text that disallows those types of things wouldn't be that tough, but hey that's me.
