Is there any official word on whether extra spell from complete arcane will allow you to get a spell that isn't normally on your class list, such as a hexblade taking repair light damage.

Can the warmage (Complete Arcane) benefit from the
Extra Spell feat?
No. Extra Spell lets you add one spell to your list of spells
known, but the spell must be taken from your class spell list.
Since the warmage already knows all the spells on his class
spell list, this feat has no effect.

However, from what I can recall, before this FAQ item it was relatively accepted as working, citing the example of the Expanded Knowledge feat for psionics. The main problems that came from that interpretation were generally due to problematic spells, such as wraithstrike, or meeting class prerequisites. It certainly seems to violate the assumptions the authors had, but in retrospect it's probably OK.

From what I remember, there was still no general resolution before the FAQ. Expanded knowledge allows you to pick a cross-list power because it explicitly states that you can. Extra spell makes no such provision.
