But then it goes on to say it's like natural healing except where noted here. Natural healing says you gain 1 HP (per character level) per night. So far so good. But then it adds that if there is any significant interruption (such as combat) then you do not gain the HP. Which I interpreted as meaning you have fast healing 1, and gain one hp per round. Unless you do anything significant in that round. I read somewhere on the boards saying that the Dragon Shamans fast healing aura didn't work in combat and I figured it was because of doing something significant. Now I found the Combat Vigor feat in the PHBII. This allows you to have fast healing 2 while in your combat focus, which you can only attain in combat. In general, does fast healing heal you no matter what. Having fast healing 1, will bring a character back from -9 after getting burned with a fire ball. (like the dragon shaman's aura) It'll heal everyone constently even while engaged in a war? |

It does so just fine in combat, unless some how you are prevented from natural healing. That is because the rate is restated, but without an exception. As far as I know natural healing stops at -1 hp and is replaced by a chance to gain or lose 1 hp per day. That would mean that fast healing would stop at -1 hp. |

It's not very well defined, and your interpretation that "significant interruptions" pose a problem just proves that. However, for playability, you'd probably better allow fast healing in combat - it's pretty clearly what the intent is, based on all the "fast healing" monsters' flavor texts. |
