| Myzery7812-01-07, 12:25 AM | Im having some trouble with tiny creatures in my campaign, namely the fact that they have to enter a creatures space to attack them. From what I can tell that means tiny creatures can never attack small creatures, since they are only one size apart and thus cant enter their space. I also had an encounter planned where a PC might be attacked by vermin crawling through a tight space, but the DMG says creatures cant share spaces while squeezing, so a tiny creature couldnt attack a creature squeezing. If I've missed something please let me know, because these situations dont seem to make much sense. |

| Myzery7812-01-07, 01:19 AM | What about the squeezing issue though, DMG pg. 29: While a creature is squeezing though a narrow space, its not possible for other smaller creatures to occipy that space. So would that mean tiny creatures would have no way of attacking a squeezing opponent? |
| Marcus Majarra12-01-07, 11:50 AM | That would be correct. |

If you subdivide your battle grid by chopping each 5' square into four 2-1/2' subsquares, Tiny becomes the new Medium. At that scale, each Tiny creature fills a square and has reach only to adjacent squares. Since larger creatures now have multi-square reach (e.g. 5'), they get attacks of opportunity as the Tinies move in to engage, even though Tinies no longer actually move into occupied space at this map scale. If most of your creatures are Tiny (or smaller), it might be worth using a 2.5'-scale battlemap. Easiest would be to house rule that a squeezing creature can be engaged along the appropriate linear face. That means that two Tinies can engage on a 5' square-side. The Tinies still provoke attacks when moving in. When a larger creature is squeezing, Tinies can engage, but cannot "pass through" to the other side. |
