| spikevampire05-14-07, 04:28 PM | Hi guys my question is about a medium fly manovrability with a magic carpet. What is the meaning of maximum turn on angle? Is the maximum angle i can turn in a round? so i have to lose 10 feet of moviment to reach the maximum turn on angle (90°) in the second roun i can turn on another 90° and straight ahead. I hope someone clear my mind...really difficult... The flight rules are in the first page of the master manual. THANKS |
| Marcus Majarra05-14-07, 05:09 PM | A carpet of flying has an average maneuverability, although it has the ability to hover (which negates the need to travel its minimum forward speed). It can turn at an angle of 45 degrees after 5 feet of forward movement, and it can also turn in place at an angle of 45 degrees, but doing so costs it 5 feet of movement. It cannot turn more than 90 degrees while in the same square. It can rise at a 60 degree angle and lower at any angle. It has to move at least 5 feet forward before switching from going down and going up. |
| spikevampire05-14-07, 05:21 PM | thanks a lot ,really clear, but i don't understand if i can turn more than 90° if i take another 5 feet square. -5 to 45°, -5 to 45°, 5 feet ahead and so on with -5 feet to 45° turn another two time |
| Edana05-14-07, 05:28 PM | With average maneuverability you can essentially turn 90 degrees per square that you enter (at a cost of 5 feet of movement to pull off that extra 45 degree of turning). So, if you move forward 5 feet, you can then turn 90 degrees at a cost of an additional 5 feet of movement. You must then move forward another 5 feet before you can turn again. A normally flying creature wouldn't be able to continually turn in that manner because it wouldn't be able to maintain the forward speed to keep from stalling, but the carpet doesn't have the minimum forward speed limitation so you don't have to worry about that. |
| spikevampire05-14-07, 05:33 PM | ok thanks a lot!!! i got it sorry for my ignorance |
| spikevampire05-14-07, 07:38 PM | another simple question, is the carpet like a horse without any skill check, because it take order from your voice, so you use the carpet speed with your move action if you were on it, don't you? |
| Marcus Majarra05-15-07, 10:10 PM | The carpet is not a mount. Mounts are dealt with through the Ride skill. |
| spikevampire05-16-07, 09:50 AM | do you think i need to make any balance check to stay on his top? or other abilities, read balance ability on the race of wild if you can and please refer what do you think... thanks |
| tos_shai_hulud05-16-07, 03:33 PM | If your DM ever finds a situation he feels needs a balance check, he will tell you. I wouldn't add any to the mix :). |
| mvincent05-16-07, 05:07 PM | do you think i need to make any balance check to stay on his top?No. The carpet (somehow) keeps you on it. For most purpose, simply treat it similarly to you yourself having a fly speed. |
| DreadArchon05-16-07, 06:40 PM | A carpet of flying has an average maneuverability, although it has the ability to hover (which negates the need to travel its minimum forward speed). Doesn't it take a move action to switch from Moving to Hovering and vice-versa? I don't think you can do it as part of another move action like you can drawing a weapon. |
| Toki_Wartooth05-16-07, 07:03 PM | Doesn't it take a move action to switch from Moving to Hovering and vice-versa?Only if they use the "Hover (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsterFeats.htm#hover)" feat. Those with Perfect or Good maneuverability (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/movement.htm#movingInThreeDimensions) have no Minimum Forward Speed to begin with, and so can hover freely. |
| DreadArchon05-16-07, 07:24 PM | Only if they use the "Hover (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsterFeats.htm#hover)" feat. Those with Perfect or Good maneuverability (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/movement.htm#movingInThreeDimensions) have no Minimum Forward Speed to begin with, and so can hover freely. But the carpet does have a minimum forward speed, thus making it need the move action, right? |
| mvincent05-16-07, 07:58 PM | But the carpet does have a minimum forward speed, thus making it need the move action, right? When the text says that the carpet can hover, it means it has no minimum forward speed. I cannot imagine a flying carpet having a minimum forward speed (and/or using the hover feat). |
| spikevampire05-17-07, 06:00 AM | i can't imagine a carpet with feats... |
| Evil DM Mk305-17-07, 06:15 AM | To hover on a carpet seems to be a lack of moving on it. This I doubt it takes any action at all. |
