Good-aligned weapons [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-08-07, 04:40 AM Is it possibly to make a permanent good-aligned weapon, without making it a holy weapon? The cleric spell Align weapon ha a set duration (1 min/level), and Permanency (which is a wiz/sorc spell) doesn't mention the spell in the list of "permanency candidates".

This would be the best way IMO and a lot easier then finding someone to cast permanency if the party does have it.

No, Thiez was correct:

A creature with an alignment subtype (chaotic, evil, good, or lawful) can overcome this type of damage reduction with its natural weapons and weapons it wields as if the weapons or natural weapons had an alignment (or alignments) that match the subtype(s) of the creature.

The entry was in the Damage reduction section, but it was about subtypes, not damage reduction.

04-09-07, 06:46 PM There's the Blessed property (already mentioned) from BoED 113. There's the Sacred property (my favorite) from Libris Mortis 77. Both cost only +1.

There's Sure Striking at +1, from PGtF 120; this lets a weapon overcome any aligned DR. And there's Shadow Striking at +3, from Tome of Magic 155; that one overcomes any DR.

You could make the weapon out of Flametouched Iron (Eberron 127) or Frystalline (BoED 38). Both metals make the weapon good-aligned.

Defenders of the Faith has the Sacred Scabbard, which can be used to cast Bless Weapon 3/day.
