| Asilomar07-25-07, 02:56 PM | Sorry for the glut of questions, but we played Sunday. Okay, so, when it comes to grappling: 1.) Provokes and AoO unless has Improved Grapple 2.) Melee Touch Attack to grab 3.) If 2 succeeds, Opposed Grapple Check. 4.) Move into the grappled's space Consequences: 1.) Can not participate in a flank 2.) Flat-footed 3.) No moving without an opposed grapple check 4.) Escape with opposed grapple check (replaces attack) My questions: 1.) If a character has multiple attacks, can they make multiple attempts to break or make a grapple? 2.) If one of those attacks is usually with an offhand weapon, does that allow a break attempt? 3.) If my thief is being grappled, how exactly does my fighter help get her out of the grapple? |
| weasel007-25-07, 03:20 PM | 1) yes. 2)Hmm... don't see why not. Just remember to use all applicable penalties. *Edit Note: As Karui_Kage says - though I don't see why you can't use them as attempts to escape seeing as your arn't actually attacking with them. 3) A-Join the grapple. B-Simply attack the theif's opponent. The opponent is also flat-footed and there is no penalty for melee attacks into a grapple. |
| Karui_Kage07-25-07, 03:56 PM | 2.) If one of those attacks is usually with an offhand weapon, does that allow a break attempt? You only get base attacks in a grapple. Two weapon fighting doesd not come into play, nor give extra attacks. |
| Asilomar07-25-07, 05:03 PM | What if you don't (or can not) attack the grappler but you need to separate the two. For example a Cloaker, where half of all damage is done to whomever is being grappled. Is there a way for the fighter to separate the two? |
| weasel007-25-07, 05:16 PM | Do opposed str checks or grapple checks between the fighter and cloaker. Or the fighter can join the grapple and he and the rogue can team wrestle the thing down using aid another on grapple checks to pin the cloaker. Joining a Grapple If your target is already grappling someone else, you can use an attack to start a grapple, as above, except that the target doesn’t get an attack of opportunity against you, and your grab automatically succeeds. You still have to make a successful opposed grapple check to become part of the grapple. If there are multiple opponents involved in the grapple, you pick one to make the opposed grapple check against. Multiple Grapplers Several combatants can be in a single grapple. Up to four combatants can grapple a single opponent in a given round. Creatures that are one or more size categories smaller than you count for half, creatures that are one size category larger than you count double, and creatures two or more size categories larger count quadruple. When you are grappling with multiple opponents, you choose one opponent to make an opposed check against. The exception is an attempt to escape from the grapple; to successfully escape, your grapple check must beat the check results of each opponent. |

Melee Touch Attack to grab 3.) If 2 succeeds, Opposed Grapple Check. Don't forget you do damage as an unarmed attack here. 4.) Move into the grappled's space Consequences: 1.) Can not participate in a flankWhile that is one effect of "No threatened squares" you also lose your ability to make attacks of opportunity. 2.) Flat-footedYou lose your dexterity bonus to AC (this is not flat-footed, subtle difference) and this only applies to people outside the grapple. 3.) No moving without an opposed grapple check 4.) Escape with opposed grapple check (replaces attack)or escape artist vs. grapple check. 1.) If a character has multiple attacks, can they make multiple attempts to break or make a grapple?Yes, if the attacks are due to high base attack bonus. 2.) If one of those attacks is usually with an offhand weapon, does that allow a break attempt? No, only attacks granted by high base attack bonus, or an effect like haste. 3.) If my thief is being grappled, how exactly does my fighter help get her out of the grapple? The rules-as-written allow you to break another's pin but does not let you directly break another's grapple on an ally, although it is a common house rule to allow an opposed grapple check to free an ally. |
