| aeginotu02-26-07, 06:53 PM | 1) If a player has two speed weapons, and two weapon fighting, do they get two extra attacks, one per weapon? 2) If a player drops the previously mentioned weapons, quick-draws out another dagger while under the effect of haste, declaring that to be the weapon to be affected by Haste(which specifically states, "a hastened creature may make on extra attack with any weapon he is holding."), can he make an extra attack with it? Thanks in advance for answers. |

Thanks in advance for answers. If I remember correctly... 1) They get an additional attack with one of their weapons, not both. 2) If the player drops a weapon, quick draws another weapon, he can use that weapon for the additional attack due to haste, as long as he hasn't taken an additional attack with his previous weapons already. -LN |
| orionm4202-27-07, 10:00 AM | If I remember correctly... 1) They get an additional attack with one of their weapons, not both. Not sure I agree with this. The description of the speed special ability says... Speed: When making a full attack action, the wielder of a speed weapon may make one extra attack with it. The attack uses the wielder’s full base attack bonus, plus any modifiers appropriate to the situation. (This benefit is not cumulative with similar effects, such as a haste spell.) If a character has paid the +3 bonus price for two separate speed weapons, I don't see anything in the description of speed that would preclude him from making one extra attack with each weapon. Could be wrong here. @ aeginotu: with respect to the "drawing a dagger" question, are you saying he drops and draws before taking any other actions in the round? The reason I ask is that dropping a weapon is a free action. So is drawing a non-hidden weapon when you have the quick draw feat. As you describe it, if the character has taken no other actions in the round, he still has a full round of actions available and can use haste as normal. |

| Someone02-27-07, 01:11 PM | 1. and 2.) Nope and nope. Being under the effects of a speed weapon or a haste spell is a yes/no, not a "how many?". When you are under the effects of a haste spell and/or are wielding one or more speed weapons, you may make a single extra attack when performing a full attack. The limitation is that when you are using a speed weapon, that extra attack must be with a speed weapon. There's no such thing as "extra speedy" or "speedy haste". The advantage of having more than one speed weapon is that you now have a choice with which weapon to make the single extra attack. This might matter if one is flaming and one is frost, and you're fighting fire subtype creatures... |
| mvincent02-27-07, 01:11 PM | From the 3.0 FAQ: "The description for the speed weapon property says it is not cumulative with the haste spell, but exactly how this applies in the game seems unclear, especially when two weapons of speed are involved. Can you use two speed weapons at the same time? What, exactly, is meant when the rules say haste and speed don’t stack? Does it mean you can use the speed property during the normal portion of your turn, but not during the “extra” partial action you get from haste? You can use two weapons of speed at a time all right, but you still only get one extra attack, from one weapon or the other, not both. If you are under the effects of a haste spell, you can use the extra attack action from one weapon of speed, or the extra partial action from the haste spell, but not both." This still applies in 3.5. In fact, the only 3.5 changes in the speed enhancement description make combining them even more proscribed. |
| Zherog02-27-07, 01:29 PM | I agree with Someone and mvincent. Only one extra attack, regardless of how many speed weapons you have. |
| orionm4202-27-07, 01:40 PM | After seeing the 3.0 FAQ quote, I agree. Obviously. Thanks mvincent. :) |
