What exactly does HD mean. Not like what you roll for more HP, but like for 'knocks out 5HD creatures'

HD is what you roll for hp. It is also a measure of overall power/experience (hp are based on the type of experience, hence HD size) which is what it refers to in "knocks out 5HD creatures." A barbarian 1 may have more hp than a wizard 4 but the wizard has far more HD to reflect is experience.

HD stands for hit dice. A creature's HD is the sum of its racial hit dice (if any) plus its class levels. Lizardfolk, for example, start off with 2 racial hit dice. A 5th-level lizardfolk ranger thus has 7 HD.

What the other guys said.

So, for the spell that knocks out 5 HD of creatures, it would knock out (for example) 5 1st-lvl human fighters, or one 5th-level human fighter.
