Helpmeplease 03-12-08, 04:05 PM	Hello all :) Character in the group aquired a Sword made out of a strange black metal. {I forget the name of the metal. Its in the Complete warriors handbook} The properties of this metal works like the magic jar spell. If someone dies using the weapon the soul goes into it, and remains there until someone else who dies using the weapon and the souls switch places. and to make a long story short: Well this happen. and the original body ran away and a npc picked up the weapon an was promply killed in the same battle. So the original character is now in a new body. and they had to leave in a hurry back to there own plane . so odds are the original body is gone for good....? what are his options... Stats. on current body are less then optimal. for his current class. limited wish and wish would more then do the trick. but there resources are limited. (we also havn't been exposed to mages of this power level yet) We do have a connection with some fairly high level priest. could true resurrection...possibly be able to gain him another body:confused: I am not the current DM ....I just considering options for my friend.... thanks for your many insightful replies. :mrt:
PenderGrass 03-12-08, 08:49 PM	what are his options.... This would heavily depend on the DM. It seems if he wants to keep the new, substandard, body he will have a long road to get it up to standard. Another option might be track down his old body. ....could true resurrection...possibly be able to gain him another body.... From what you have described - Doubtful. Would be better off spending time and energy finding his original body. :dragon: *****
SillyRobot 03-12-08, 10:26 PM	Well, its not really a rules question because the material doesn't swap souls that way. Thinaun (the special material) grabs the soul of the last creature who died while touching the metal. It can only hold one soul at a time so any previously held soul is freed. Note freed -- not "swapped into the deceased body and reanimated." While the soul is held, special rules apply for resurrection-type magic. Once the soul is freed, it is free and goes on to whatever afterlife it can expect and magicks should work normally. So, your situation falls completely in the realm of DM contrivance and outside of RAW adjudication. The only answer in this sort of case is "ask the DM." You could also try asking the gods -- Commune may be able to narrow your solution set with sufficiently inventive questioning.
