This I cannot find mentioned in the rules.

I am thinking of running a group, and this is the one thing that is really bugging me. How do I know how much in game time passes?

eg) How do I know, say, how long it takes for the PCs to travel from one town to another? Or how do I know how much time has passed in a dungeon and that the PCs need to rest?

Thanks for any help :)

How do I know, say, how long it takes for the PCs to travel from one town to another? Use the Overland Movement (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/movement.htm#overlandMovement) section of the DMG

Or how do I know how much time has passed in a dungeon and that the PCs need to rest?Mostly use your best guess, but for movement you can use the Local Movement (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/movement.htm#localMovement) section of the DMG.

Thanks a lot! :) That really helps. Now I can progress with that burden off my mind :)

You don't really have to keep track of time in order to tell the PCs when they are tired, they will set up camp usually every single day because their health and spells are low.

Overland travel is a good guideline but it is not terribly important most of the time. Unless you are on some sort of timed adventure, it doesn't really make a difference how much time passes. Just use your judgment.
