What if a spell-caster class made a high enough intelligence score and used mage hand to push the pins in a lock up to unlock it?

No, because you don't have line of sight, line of effect, or (probably) ranks in open lock.

Mage Hand itself doesn't mention anything about fine control of the object moved. The only thing that comes close is the ranged legerdemain ability of the Arcane Trickster PrC.

If a normal, unskilled, non-magical hand could do it, I would allow the mage hand to do it.

in this case, the lock would have to be fairly large for a finger to fit inside the lock and manipulate the tumblers.

So if the lock is very large, I'd allow it.

"You point your finger at an object and can lift it and move it at will from a distance."

Can you look at a specific lock pin from a range and point your finger at that one? Okay. If the lock is so open and large that you can do it, I would allow it.

You would still naturally need to succeed in open lock check (know which pins to push, etc.)

Mage hand can only target a single object, so unless the lock was ridiculously simple I'd say it won't work even if you can see the individual pins.

No. This amounts to Ranged Legerdemain.

Ranged Legerdemain is a class feature of the Arcane Trickster prestige class.

I would not allow any character with 0 levels of Arcane Trickster to use a class feature of that prestige class...
