| Baernwulf_of_Nor08-13-07, 09:55 PM | What if a spell-caster class made a high enough intelligence score and used mage hand to push the pins in a lock up to unlock it? BoN |
| bobothechimp08-13-07, 10:33 PM | No, because you don't have line of sight, line of effect, or (probably) ranks in open lock. |
| Someone08-14-07, 01:30 AM | Mage Hand itself doesn't mention anything about fine control of the object moved. The only thing that comes close is the ranged legerdemain ability of the Arcane Trickster PrC. |
| Phrennzy08-14-07, 10:36 AM | If a normal, unskilled, non-magical hand could do it, I would allow the mage hand to do it. in this case, the lock would have to be fairly large for a finger to fit inside the lock and manipulate the tumblers. So if the lock is very large, I'd allow it. |
| Pegasos98908-14-07, 03:21 PM | "You point your finger at an object and can lift it and move it at will from a distance." Can you look at a specific lock pin from a range and point your finger at that one? Okay. If the lock is so open and large that you can do it, I would allow it. You would still naturally need to succeed in open lock check (know which pins to push, etc.) |
| Sildatorak08-14-07, 05:50 PM | Mage hand can only target a single object, so unless the lock was ridiculously simple I'd say it won't work even if you can see the individual pins. |
| DrMorganes08-15-07, 02:15 PM | No. This amounts to Ranged Legerdemain. Ranged Legerdemain is a class feature of the Arcane Trickster prestige class. I would not allow any character with 0 levels of Arcane Trickster to use a class feature of that prestige class... |
