JackSnape 01-09-08, 05:47 PM	You know I've never noticed that that wasn't really clear. I've always treated it as area spells don't affect them. I think the idea behind directed attacks removing them is that if you attack an illusion you know it's an illusion, in the same way that you get a second will save if you interact with an illusion. Note also that they're figments, and since figments can't "deal damage or provide protection" I think it's fair to assume they don't take damage either
StevenO 01-09-08, 06:49 PM	Dropping a Fireball on a wizard protected by Mirror Image will not destroy any of the images. A targetted spell will destroy an image targetted. For the few spells that seem to be both area and targetted (I'm looking at Chain Lightning.) I'd say it is the DMs call and the decision should be known before it comes up. Using Chain Lightning as an example declaring each image as a target may mean the wizard avoids the direct blast (the target is an image) but is very likely to get caught up in the secondary effect and the main "target" and all other images hit by the secondary effect will be destroyed; considering it as an area the Wizard will take the normal result of getting hit and all of the images will also appear to get hit but they don't count against the number of secondary targets and will remain after the spell. I am not sure what the current visualization of Mirror Image is but I still picture it as having all the images being in one clump that probably should fit into at most a huge (3x3) space although I think the group should be tighter than that.

You are correct, non-targeted spells don't destroy the image, the operative word in the spell description is "seem" - note the emphasis above. It seems, though, that non-targeted, non-spell attacks may operate as per normal on them - such as the splash from a alchemist fire. But, that isn't 100% clear. :dragon: *****
sblaxman 01-09-08, 07:40 PM	I've always read it the same as above... An AOE would hit the caster and do nothing to the images... The images effect is that the attacker cannot tell which is real or not, and is likely to attack one of the "fakes" instead of the real. Because AOE isn't targing any of them, then they are of no consequence and are ignored, and the mage takes damage as normal

There are too many (I think I've found something like 20-25 members so far with not only the same date of birth but it is also listed in the same style) for it to be mere coincidence. Is it a default date in registration? Is it one person making multiple accounts? Is it a group of Company employees trying to foster creative discussions? Anyone have any insight into this?
