| Chainsaw05-28-07, 10:27 PM | If a monk is paralyzed is he able to use wholeness of body to heal himself? I'm assuming it's a standard action but does it require movement or anything or is it purely mental? My player is arguing that it is a purely mental supernatural power based on the description of the ability. I argue that you are unable to perform the ability while paralyzed. Please help we got a monk stuck in a gelatinous cube :P |
| Salla05-28-07, 10:46 PM | I have generally interpretted that ability as a purely mental action, thus it could be taken while paralyzed. Monks need the help, anyway. :) |
| Krusk05-28-07, 10:47 PM | We give the monk any help he can get in our group. He is allowed to arbitrarily heal as he wishes using that ability. Within the limits of course. But he is allowed to do it on anyones turn using no action. He just sort of gains HP. here is the question though, is it going to destroy your campaign if the monk survives the encounter? |
| weasel005-28-07, 10:54 PM | Paralyzed: A paralyzed character is frozen in place and unable to move or act. A paralyzed character has effective Dexterity and Strength scores of 0 and is helpless, but can take purely mental actions. A winged creature*snip*. Supernatural Abilities: Using a supernatural ability is usually a standard action (unless defined otherwise by the ability’s description). Its use cannot be disrupted, does not require concentration, and does not provoke attacks of opportunity. Wholeness of Body (Su): At 7th level or higher, a monk can heal her own wounds. She can heal a number of hit points of damage equal to twice her current monk level each day, and she can spread this healing out among several uses. Arguably the character can't act, however, this is an "at will" type ability. I would think the monk should be able to. |
| Chainsaw05-28-07, 11:19 PM | Thanks guys for the replies. We ruled that the monk can use the ability based on the fact that its a supernatural ability and purely mental and is therefore usable while paralyzed. Luckily the party killed the ooze before the monk died but he was at 4 hp when they did ;) |
