| five_sola10-07-07, 02:53 PM | Monkey Grip : (complete warrior pg 103) Is it considered a fighter bonus feat? from reading it I don't think so but want to be sure before I deny the player using it. they can use it on their normal feats but they will be forced to get rid of another one they have :-) Also I am running a Gestalt game, how does the fighter bonus feats and overlap of normal feat progression according to HD levels (1, 3, 6, etc) they are a npc 1 /fighter 5 /// cleric 6 (ECL 6) they get 3 fighter bonus feats from fighter class, and 4 normal feats (human bonus, lvl 1, 3, 6) does that look correct? |

Either way, though, Monkey Grip isn't a very good feat. You're MUCH better off with Power Attack, really. Also I am running a Gestalt game, how does the fighter bonus feats and overlap of normal feat progression according to HD levels (1, 3, 6, etc) they are a npc 1 /fighter 5 /// cleric 6 (ECL 6) they get 3 fighter bonus feats from fighter class, and 4 normal feats (human bonus, lvl 1, 3, 6) does that look correct?Looks fine. Why would you think that was wrong? Also, why are you taking a level of an NPC class? |
| five_sola10-07-07, 03:22 PM | Either way, though, Monkey Grip isn't a very good feat. You're MUCH better off with Power Attack, really. The player needs to take it to use the Large weapon (he is a medium creature) one handed. It is a legacy weapon that he REALLY wants. :-) Looks fine. Why would you think that was wrong? Well I know Gestalt combines certain things sometimes but couldn't remember if this is one. This is only my second time allowing Gestalt characters in the game. Also, why are you taking a level of an NPC class? Part of the story. the characters were drafted early on and they had to pick a NPC class for their civilian life before the war. this is actually an on going game that a new player is joining, but I am making him follow the same rules just to be fair. :-) |

It is a legacy weapon that he REALLY wants. :-) Why would he want to use it one handed? 2-hand doubles Power Attack damage and adds 50% of Strength damage, and he gets to avoid the Monkey Grip penalties when he is probably already at a -4 for using a weapon of the wrong size category. Much better off would be investing in an Animated Shield, for only +1 you free up your second hand. Pretty much anyone who isn't going Two Weapon Fighting should do this. |
| Frugal10-10-07, 02:12 PM | In terms of the feat question, just remember that they get 1 feat at 1st level and 1 feat at 3rd and every 3 levels after that. For gestalt, count the HD to make sure you get it right. For fighter bonus feats, they're class features so are given out normally and gestalt won't affect that at all. |

Meaning: you could use a Large Longsword one-handed, but not a Medium Greatsword one-handed. Hope it helps!! :D |
