| Speters051906-12-07, 10:47 PM | A PC has a Winter Wolf Intelligent Cohort, Obviously it's an animal, so in the presence of a wraith...does it get panicked regardless that it's a cohort and domesticated (It is mentioned in the description of the wraith (from srd) that wild and domesticated animals regardless get panicked, so does being a cohort prevent this? Or does it still flee panicked if forced closer to the wraith? |
| DX205206-12-07, 11:41 PM | if it is a durid's AC then under a direct interpretation yes, it would work on it. A 1st-level druid’s companion is completely typical for its kind except as noted below. As a druid advances in level, the animal’s power increases as shown on the table. If a druid releases her companion from service, she may gain a new one by performing a ceremony requiring 24 uninterrupted hours of prayer. This ceremony can also replace an animal companion that has perished. the only thing at later levels that has any chance of negenting it is the Devotion ability gained at the 9th Druid level (and that would only apply if the aura allowed saves, and it does not appear to. if not it is not a Druids companion , then I do not know |
| Speters051906-13-07, 01:04 AM | Nope, definately not a druid, it's a warlock's |

Winter wolves are NOT Animals, they are Magical Beasts. Animals are not sentient. Magical beasts can be. Winter wolves have an Int of 9 (or -2 int when making it a Cohort). There is nothing "obvious" about this mistake. |

This thing is only SLIGHTLY less intelligent than an average human being. Heck, it speaks two languages! |

Under that interpretation and given the fact that Winter Wolves are highly intelligent, the Wolf would no more panic in the face of a wraith as any other PC would. |

Meaning 'most of 'em'. ;) (Seriously ... doesn't matter how badly outclassed the bad guys may be, if the Players know that thing can drain levels, my players bloody FREAK.) |

There are two creature abilties which when given to a monster is guarenteed to cause fear: 1. Energy Drain. (Wraiths, Vampires, Wights, etc.) 2. Item Destruction. (Good old Rust Monster of "That was my +3 sword!" Destruction) The fear of death means nothing to a hero. But being reduced to 1st level or losing all their schwag is the worst possible punishment. |
