| Radijs03-07-08, 06:35 AM | Last night one of the PC's in my game fired a spellwarped spell at an enemy that was riding on a horse. I forget the spells name at the moment but it knocks people prone unless they succeed at a reflex save. Spellwarp sniper of course denies them that save. But I wasn't sure on how it works with people who are in the saddle. Are there any rules on that? |
| Shaggy_Shaggs03-07-08, 06:44 AM | This sounds very similar to trying to trip a mounted opponent. According to the PHB, you can do so and if you succeed, you pull the rider from his mount. I'd say the guy is prone on the ground (and maybe takes damage for falling from the horse, depending on whether he makes his soft fall Ride check). |
| TwiddleStootch03-07-08, 01:22 PM | Yeah, I would say they end up prone in the square adjacent to their mount which is opposite the caster (think opposite side like flanking), except don't allow them to fall in front of the mount. And surely a soft fall check: Soft Fall You can react instantly to try to take no damage when you fall off a mount—when it is killed or when it falls, for example. If you fail your Ride check, you take 1d6 points of falling damage. This usage does not take an action. |
| Slimgauge03-07-08, 03:34 PM | I went looking for spells that potentially knock the target prone. I searched the SRD and Crystal Keep for the word "prone" in the text of the spell effects. Here's what I came up with. I note that there are others, like Grease, that can indirectly make a target prone but don't include the word "prone" in the text of the effects. Gust of Wind Hideous Laughter Command Cometfall (CDiv 159) Defenstrating Sphere (CArc 103) Great Thunderclap (MoF 98) Illusory Pit(CArc p112) Any further info on exactly what spell it was ? If the spell takes the target prone with no save, why not just throw it on the mount and get both the mount and the rider in one shot ? I'll look up Spellwarped Sniper in Complete Scoundrel when I'm back to my books. |
