If it is just a Masterwork weapon, it only gets a +1 bonus on the attack rolls. If it is a +1 weapon, it gets a +1 bonus on attack rolls and also a +1 bonus on damage rolls. If it is a +2 weapon, it gets a +2 bonus on attack rolls and also a +2 bonus on damage rolls, and etc. For armor, Masterwork armor has a -1 armor check penalty (the penalty to physical skills while wearing that armor due to the bulk). For +1 armor, the armor has a -1 armor check penalty, and also a +1 bonus to the AC provided. For +2 armor, the armor still has just a -1 armor check penalty, but there is a +2 bonus to AC provided, and etc. |

The armor check penalty of masterwork armor and magical armor (which is also masterwork) is reduced by 1. So if the armor entry in the PHB lists an ACP value of -4, the ACP for the masterwork and magical versions will both be -3. |
| Mock2609-18-07, 11:26 PM | I use my own system for masterwork weapons. Spending 5x the cost gives you +1 (non-magical) to hit or damage. Spending 10x gives you both. This non-magical bonus can never be more than +1 to hit and +1 to damage. |

| 1 ton ghost09-20-07, 11:49 PM | way back when (in 2nd Ed. D&D), they had a 4 way chart for weapons Poor: -1 to hit/dmg Average: as is, plain vanilla Fine: +1 to hit OR dmg...determined by crafter Exceptional: +1 hit & dmg there was no prereq. for magic weapons. ie) you could have a piece of crap poor quality, bone cudgel...but it could be treated as a Frostbrand or some $hit if you went "that far". related: 3.5 Ed, i think it was either 2nd or 3rd to last issue of Dragon mag (Titan on cover) that FINALLY introduced new weapon/armor crafting qualities. for example, personal favorite Serrated: +1 dmg for d4 rnds after successful crit Razor Edge: +1 dmg. overall (extra high Craft DC+) Basket Hilt: +2 (i think) on opposed Disarm check Blood Groove, Added Hardness, etc. etc. a truly excellent article |

Actually, that isn't true according to the 2nd edition RAW. On page 87 of the 2nd edition DMG it states: When constructing a magical item, no ordinary sowrd, stick, cloak, necklace, or whatever will do. The item must be extraordinary in some way. Weapons must be of highcquality craftsmanship. Woods must be rare, specially grown, or cut in a particular way at a particular time. etc. The First edition DMG also mentions that items need to be of the highest quality. |
| 1 ton ghost09-22-07, 10:51 PM | um, ok, i stand corrected, though it's only been over a decade. but how does your quip help the OP? contribute plz. |
| Mock2609-23-07, 07:11 PM | um, ok, i stand corrected, though it's only been over a decade. but how does your quip help the OP? contribute plz. I have already contributed to this thread in previous posts. I responded to your post merely to make sure that the truth was known. You made an error in your post, and I was just correcting you. That's all. When people get the 3.5 rules wrong others will politely step in and correct them. I feel that we should do that for all versions of the game. After all, it is all about D&D and less about which edition. Take care and have a great day.... ciao, john. |
| lulzapalooza09-26-07, 05:21 PM | Take care and have a great day.... ciao, john. John. Don't be that person. :embarrass |
| Mock2609-26-07, 05:51 PM | John. Don't be that person. :embarrass Huh? Am I missing something? Or is there something wrong with trying to be civil? |
| lulzapalooza09-26-07, 10:07 PM | Huh? Am I missing something? Or is there something wrong with trying to be civil? It came off as aloof, but by turn it could have been me that was aloof. |

| meabolex10-10-07, 12:41 PM | Huh? Am I missing something? Or is there something wrong with trying to be civil? This is an internet forum. Any attempt to correct anyone is a declaration of war. All corrections are *always* intended to hurt feelings and spread malice upon the land. . .ESPECIALLY in a DM rules forum. HOW DARE YOU JOHN, HOW DARE YOU? |
