I was curious about something I had been reading over. If you awaken a creature, say a small animal, it becomes a magical beast, gains 2hd, etc. Does this mean you go back and figure out all of its hp, attack bonus, etc as if it were a magical beast or you just progress the original creature type 2hd than change its type to magical beast, doing no other changes.

Would really appreciate everyone's answer/opinion =D

Only its type changes to magical beast, meaning you get the benefits of the magical beast type, such as darkvision.

All other stats (hp, saves etc) are still based off its original animal HD. This is true even if it later gains extra racial HD somehow.:)

It becomes a Magical Beast(Augmented Animal), so traits of a magical beast and features of an animal. So it would gain darkvision, but keep its hit points, BAB progression, etc. Even any future HD have this same progression.

Skills is a bit funny because you simultaneously increase intelligence to where it might actually have more than one skill/level and increase the hit dice. I'd probably give it the normal animal levels at the low intelligence, but the two new hit dice with skills at its increased intelligence.
